In 1968, the author received the Pulitzer Prize for this photograph - one of the most prestigious awards in the United States, which is awarded for achievements in music, cinema, theater and journalism.

The picture shows two electricians, Randall Champion and Jay Thompson, hanging from a power pole. That day there was a strong heat and nothing foreshadowed trouble. The hum of air conditioners in July 1967 was heard throughout the state of Florida. Because of them, in the city of Jacksonville, there was an overload of power lines, and this caused a power surge.

Randall and Jay were doing routine maintenance on a live line when Randall accidentally touched one of the wires. A discharge of 4000 V passed through the body and his heart stopped. For understanding: during the execution in the electric chair, a voltage of 2000 V is used

Randall's lifeless body hung from the harness. But his partner Jay did not lose his head, realizing that every second is precious, he began to give him artificial respiration right on the pole. It was very inconvenient, but there was no other way out. In such a situation, it is difficult to conduct a normal resuscitation, but Jay still tried to start his friend's heart until he had a weak pulse.

Only after that he unhooked his partner's insurance and, throwing him over his shoulder, went down to the ground. By the time the rescuers arrived (they were called by professional photographer Rocco Morabito, who happened to be at the scene), Champion was already conscious on the ground.
Not only was he saved, thanks to Thompson, but he lived another 35 years. The electrician died in 2003 at the age of 64.

Thompson is alive today.

Reports are circulating this week that a 13-year old rape victim in Mississippi was forced to deliver a baby because of the archaic abortion laws in her state and those states surrounding it.

Going by the pseudonym of "Ashley", this young girl is now a mother of a baby that she was forced to have because of rape.

Mississippi, along with other states that also ban abortions, technically make exceptions for when the pregnancy is from rape, but such exceptions are incredibly rare and require multiple hoops to be jumped through. Mississippi requires that a rape be reported to law enforcement in order to qualify for a legal abortion. 67% of all rapes go unreported. Additionally, that person must then travel out of state to get their abortion. In Ashley's case the closest clinic was in Chicago, a 10 hour drive away. The family said that even if permitted the cost of taking off work and travel make it impossible.

When politicians pass archaic laws, I feel that they often don't think through how broad they are. NO rape victim, especially a 13-year-old should EVER be forced to carry a child. PERIOD

1. Texas declared it has the right to police international borders. That's actually the job of the federal gov.
2. In Alabama the legislature has defied a conservative U.S. Supreme Court and refuses to give African Americans a second majority precinct.
3. In Florida, Day-old roadkill governor DeSantis is behind a push to renovate text books so Florida kids are brought up believing slavery was kind of neat trade school.

The former states of the confederacy are fighting for their racist agenda in legislation and in the courts.

Not on a battlefield. And they are LOSING.

BREAKING: Civil war rips through the Republican Party as Georgia's Governor Brian Kemp shreds Donald Trump's frantic lies in the wake of his new historic indictment — infuriating MAGA in the process.

It all started with Trump promising to release a "CONCLUSIVE" report that will supposedly give him "complete EXONERATION" by proving that the 2020 election was in fact stolen from him.

Of course no such report is possible because the election was not stolen, which is what the courts have said over and over again.

Governor Kemp, a far-right Republican himself, ripped Trump's Big Lie, saying that the "2020 election in Georgia was not stolen."

"For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward - under oath - and prove anything in a court of law," he went on. "Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor."

"The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus," he added, taking a shot at Trump's presidential campaign.

For once, Kemp is right. He is an utterly odious man and Georgia would be far better off with a Democratic governor, but at the very least he's a Republican who admits they lost in 2020.

The 2009 movie, "The Blind Side” — a feel good film about a wealthy, white football loving family who adopted Michael Oher, a poor Black rising football star, was largely based on a false premise.

Turns out the adoption was a lie, concocted by the family to enrich itself at Michael’s expense. Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy allegedly made $ millions from the film, but shared none of it with him. In fact, he only found out he wasn’t really adopted in February.

Michael Oher is suing the Tuoys — The lawsuit alleges that as soon as he turned 18 (in 2004), the Tuoys tricked him into signing a document making them his conservators, which gave them legal authority to make business deals in his name.
