At exactly this time on November 24, 1963 (also a Sunday), Dr. Tom Shires and his residents begin the trauma laparotomy on Lee Harvey Oswald.
Oswald was found to have the SMA sheared off the aorta, along with R kidney and IVC injuries. He also got a resuscitative thoracotomy.
@ericpaulimd I never understand this chasing of postop ileus. There’s a reason for it. Rule out obvious causes. Support the patient and it’ll resolve in the huge majority of cases with patience.
