@jack It does. But default to light mode is so that it doesn't cause increased dialation in bright light, or cause problems for people with an astigmatism.
@elonmusk Dark mode may increase eye strain in brightly-lit conditions. Dark mode can cause halation for individuals with myopia or astigmatism, making text less readable for them.
UI/UX designers know this and is why most default to light.
