A rather hot afternoon for installing five more #Swift boxes in #Lewes!
Thank you to @birdingbods for slogging away in the heat!
The new boxes are in Valence Road, Western Road, Hereward Way, and Valley Road. Best of luck to their owners!
We saw large groups of up to 18 #Swifts gathering and screaming over our area of #Lewes during the evening. Another splendid display in De Montfort Road and entries to 2 of the boxes there!
We counted 3 entries in Valence Road, 3 at St. Anne's Church and two in Western Road.
Yesterday evening was full of screaming #Swifts in #Lewes! A thrilling midsummer display from large groups of up to twenty Swifts!
We only saw two nest entries and one exit - the sky was the place to be! A nest in Potters Lane was confirmed, which makes our total 76 nest spaces.
We saw lots of #Swifts screaming over Valence Road, De Montfort Road and St. Anne's Church, #Lewes, tonight - groups of up to 17 of them.
We saw entries to two of the boxes in De Montfort Road and three of the nests at the church.
Wonderful guided walk around the #trees in Malling Deanery Arboretum this afternoon as part of #Lewes Tree Festival 2026!
Thank you to Peter Thurman for sharing his knowledge and stories about the fascinating trees, and to the owners and stewards.
Lots of screaming fly-pasts at the top of Western Road, #Lewes tonight!
Piers saw a #Swift enter the nest at Westfield House again and a new nest has been recorded at Bridgewick Close.
Thank you to #Lewes Town Council for inviting members of our #Trees committee to the reception for nominees for the King's Award for Voluntary Service on Monday.
It is an enormous honour to be nominated for such a prestigious award!
Four hours of weeding and mulching at #Lewes Cemetery today to look after the 32 #Trees for Bees we planted there in 2020. Thank you to all of the team for helping on such a very hot day!
A great day for #Swift watching in #Lewes! Large groups of up to 13 Swifts screaming around Valence Road, De Montfort Road and St. Anne's Church.
We saw 22 entries and exits to nest spaces or boxes and Piers saw a Swift enter the nest at Westfield House - congratulations!
Up to 12 #Swifts screaming as soon as we left the house tonight and one entry straight away, then loads of screaming fly-pasts in De Montfort Road and an entry to one of the boxes. Two more entries at St. Anne's Church and two more at the top of Western Road, #Lewes, at 9.40 p.m!
We spent 25 minutes watching two #Swifts repeatedly banging against the speaker of the caller playing next to this box in De Montfort Road, #Lewes - 18 times! When the caller was turned off, one landed on the ramp and clung before climbing halfway in. Maybe an entry tomorrow?
The second guided walk of our #Lewes#Tree Festival - around the Railway Land. Fantastic bunch of people!
