The increase in Space debris earth strikes suggests our regulatory frameworks re space objects haven’t kept up with volume and no longer effectively ensure public safety.
One of my hopes for 2025 is that private actors and governments come together and do more to reverse the trend.
May ‘23 - SpaceX debris hits property in Uganda
March ‘24 - NASA-launched ISS debris strikes Fla. home
May ‘24- SpaceX debris hits N.C. Hiking paths
May ‘24 - 6 ft long, 90-lb SpaceX Crew Dragon debris strikes CAN farm
Dec ‘24 - 1110 lb debris hits Kenyan village

A thoughtful case for why we should preserve and repurpose v destroy and discard, the ISS. doing would set an influential precedent of sustainability v unrestrained disposal of space objects into earth’s atmosphere w/out fully understand the effects.
