🚆 The Circle Line - not a new idea.

Former Alliance Party Leader @DavidFordxMLA recalled that an NIR engineer first used the term “Circle Line” with him 32 years ago, an idea later discussed by @NIRailways and the Department for Regional Development (DRD).

The concept has always been about re-using existing rail infrastructure - linking Greater Belfast - to better connect commuters, housing growth and airports.

Sometimes the best new ideas are the ones worth returning to.

Key points from our discussion:

⭕️The Circle Line is a service, not a standalone project - it builds on infrastructure already recommended in the All Island Strategic Rail Review
⏲️The success of the Knockmore Line hinges on one thing: frequency
🚗Frequent, reliable service is essential to drive ridership and make rail a viable alternative to driving
🏘️We need to build new housing beside transit to help reduce car traffic
