Still on the educational system we can have training schools for technology, ICT, even factory trainings to do some specialized jobs in manufacturing so we can have companies come to Nigeria and get their products done. There should be made in Nigeria i phones

Why do we even have courses like anatomy and physiology at undergraduate level? They should all be for MBBS and then anatomy and physiology can be done at postgraduate studies for those that need to specialize and teach it.

Some might say will all doctors not japa?
I can assure you that not everyone wants to japa and with better country a lot of the qualified doctors will come back either for retirement or close to retirement.

Nigerian doctors are in high demand. We have very intelligent people who want to read medicine but are sent to read courses like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacy, microbiology lab technology etc who end up as bank tellers.

Why don’t we increase our capacity to train doctors and let the other courses be specialized by a few schools.
We set up a system that makes it easy for the doctors to japa and remit to the country.
They can be our crude oil

Why do we have so many university doing veterinary medicine and we end up forcing people that choose to read human medicine there?

Why do we not have few specialize in that and use the resources and infrastructure to train more doctors? We can even train to export doctors

Universities do not need to do all courses. They should excel in some very well and let others go. If I want to read creative writing I should have universities that are top in that?

Autonomy will most likely force universities and other high institutions in Nigeria to revamp and begin to give education meant for the 21st century instead of 18th century.
There might be competition amongst them.
As people paying will go for the best rather than what is available

Reducing the criteria for entering universities gives us graduates who have no business with university degrees and end up waiting for white collar jobs that are not available instead of doing things they are good at and can excel and even be providers of white collar jobs

Why is Nigeria constantly reducing the cut off marks needed to enter university to meet failing standards in education? It should be increased and those with the capacity to excel go in while others find their niches in other certificates awarding schools I mentioned earlier

Another thing is that we have focused too much on university degrees. What about beauty schools? Acting schools? Fashion schools? Agricultural schools?
Fabrication schools? All these can be certified. They can be degree awarding. People get to do what they love and earn a degree in it

There is someone failed to mention. Apprenticeship!
UK has that system.
Where people are learning on the job and still working towards a degree. That way the students are paid while schooling.

We can even adopt the Igbo apprenticeship program to a university acquiring degree one

The recent system we have where employment is based on paper qualifications will need to be examined. What one knows should trump what qualifications one has. There should be entry levels for those with good quality secondary education and they can learn on the job and grow.
They can then earn to go to university if they want to

Online schools is also another opportunity for people to acquire higher education at much reduced rate. It means people can be working and earning what they can use to pay off their fees.
