So one of the best (if not the best) thing about being gay is the ability to have close friendships with women. I’ve felt this my whole life. Girls at school knew I was no threat so we could be close. It’s the same now.
But this is a result of male violence. It’s all horrifying.

It’s horribly telling that, so often, as soon as a woman realises you’re gay you can sense a reduction in hyper-vigilance. The threat level has fallen. I often find myself making my gayness very clear ASAP for this reason.
I don’t know if straight men realise the extent of this.
