Today marks a historic milestone in our county’s journey—a groundbreaking moment, quite literally, as we lay the foundation for the long-awaited Loiyangalani Amphitheatre.

What we are building here is far more than brick and mortar. This is a celebration of our identity. A space that will preserve, promote, and project the cultural richness of Marsabit for generations to come.

I was deeply moved by the vibrant performances that kicked off today’s ceremony—each dance, each beat, each costume was a living reminder of what makes Marsabit so special. Our diversity is our strength. Our culture is our power. And this amphitheatre will serve as a beacon for both.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the State Department of Culture, ably led by PS Hon. Umi Bashir, for standing with us throughout this journey. Their support—from energizing our cultural festivals to partnering with us on this landmark project—has been invaluable.

This project, made possible through collaboration with the national government under the leadership of H.E. President Dr. William Ruto, is a gift to the people of Loiyangalani and the wider Marsabit community. For years, our cultural festivals have been at the mercy of tents and unpredictable weather. But that ends now.

The new amphitheatre will offer a dignified, inclusive space for artistic expression, dialogue, learning, and celebration. A space where our youth can perform, our elders can share stories, and our communities can unite in peace and pride.

To the people of Loiyangalani: this is your heritage site. Own it. Protect it. Celebrate it.

Let us build this together—not just as a construction project, but as a statement to the world that Marsabit values its culture, and we are ready to showcase it on a bigger, better stage.

This morning, the @NLC_Kenya Chair Gershom Otachi, and I attended the launch of GIS and Remote Sensing Training for counties and government officers at the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) in Kasarani.

The integration of GIS and remote sensing technology has revolutionized the land sector, offering invaluable tools for effective planning and decision-making. By harnessing these technologies, we can provide timely and accurate information that enhances service delivery and supports sustainable development in our communities.

At the National Land Commission, we are fully embracing these advancements to better manage our natural resources and develop a comprehensive public land inventory. Our goal is to ensure that land use is optimized for the benefit of all citizens, fostering transparency and accountability in land governance.

The Mau Mau Road connecting Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri and Nyandarua counties, which had stalled due to lack of funds, is now under construction! The road project is a key milestone aimed at easing the transport of people and goods, enhancing regional connectivity, and opening up Murang'a to neighbouring counties. The improved infrastructure is set to transform the region’s socio-economic landscape by facilitating access to markets, health services, and education, and by boosting agricultural and commercial activities!

Millennials are the most educated generation in history—yet the most financially unstable, the worst paid, and arguably the most emotionally exhausted. And this isn’t just a global narrative.

In Kenya, it’s a harsh reality that wears a familiar face. We were raised on a simple promise: go to school, pass your exams, get a degree, and the world will reward you.

We swallowed that dream whole. Woke up before dawn for morning preps, battled 8-4-4 with trembling hands and hopeful hearts, sat KCPEs and KCSEs like they were tickets to freedom. We graduated, some with first class honours, only to enter a world that had moved on. A world where papers don’t open doors unless your name already carries weight. Where merit is optional, and opportunities are auctioned behind closed doors—connections is the heavyweight champion.

So now, we carry certificates that look good in dusty folders and degrees that can’t pay rent. We’re tarmacking at 30, freelancing at 32, and still being told to "start small." We’re surviving in a country where job opportunities are fewer than betting shops, and where rejection letters—when they come—almost feel like closure.

We’ve turned to side hustles, gigs, digital spaces, anything to stay afloat, while constantly being reminded that we’re not doing enough. All this while balancing the invisible burden of expectation. Because even when we’re broke, we’re expected to send something home. To contribute to weddings, funerals, and WhatsApp groups. To carry our siblings. To be strong. Always strong.

And in that pressure, we’re not just financially strained—we’re mentally exhausted. We are managing anxiety like it's a full-time job. Fighting burnout before breakfast. Masking depression with memes and laughter. The truth is, many of us are barely holding it together. But we show up anyway. Because this life doesn’t allow time to fall apart.

People say money changes you. That’s not true. Money just exposes you. And what this country has done is expose a generation that did everything they were told—only to be told that they’re entitled when they ask for a return on that investment.

Even in all this, one thing about Millennials—they still rise. They still create. They still find joy in small things, still build dreams from borrowed data bundles and hope. They are not lazy—they are tired. Not lost—they were misled. And not broken—they are simply surviving in a system that sold them a dream and handed them a hustle.

And somehow, through all this, they still love. Still laugh. Still give. Still hope. And maybe that is the real education: learning to live with a cracked heart, a heavy mind, and a tired smile—but still showing up anyway.

Millennials are a generation raised on promise, betrayed by reality, but too stubborn to give up.

Today in North Horr, I had the honour of presiding over the commissioning of the North Horr Integrated Project, implemented under the Sustainable Management and Access to Water and Sanitation in the ASALS Programme (SWASAP). This transformative initiative is jointly funded by the County Government of Marsabit and the Danish Government through the Water Sector Trust Fund, with implementation by Concern Worldwide. The total project cost stands at Ksh. 33,900,000.

Rehabilitation of Tiniku Water Supply Scheme – Benefiting 892 Households
•Installation of a 100m³ elevated steel water tank
•Additional 14.4kW solar system (72 panels @ 200W each) and a new 20m³/hour, 63m head water pump
•2.1 km of new HDPE pipeline
•Construction of 2 triple-door VIP latrines at Helmer Memorial Girls Primary School
•Construction of 1 new water kiosk and rehabilitation of 2 existing kiosks
•Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) activities resulting in 17 villages certified Open Defecation Free (ODF)

Construction of Konon Gos Water Pan – Serving 295 Households
•Development of a 30,000m³ water pan with fencing, gate, silt trap, infiltration gallery, and shallow well
•1 triple-door VIP latrine at Konon Gos ECDE School
•2 livestock watering troughs

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE
To achieve sustainable development goal during this rain season in ASAL Counties.
As climate change intensifies, pastoralist communities in ASAl Counties are facing more frequent and severe droughts and floods, threatening their traditional livelihoods. To break this routine cycle of climate vulnerability, both level of government and Non state actors should come up with a sustainable, climate-smart solutions that enhance resilience and economic security.
Through the Strengthening humanitarian recovery and resilience: that will enables the pastrolist communities to rebuild their lives:
Selected community groups from those areas should be charged with funds to start smart farming by harvesting this rain water to implement climate-resilient livelihood projects, that ensur long-term food security and sustainable income sources. Before such funds to be disbursement, members should be trained in financial literacy and management and equip them with skills to make informed investments.
Such initiative will obviously strengthen economic empowerment for vulnerable mebers in accessing better economic opportunities, and enhancing their resilience in the face of climate-induced hardships.
