@PeterStefanovi2 Some people don’t have £20 to buy a new kettle. The people who are most affected by rising energy prices don‘t have any capital to spend on energy saving measures. How do we help these people?
@chloe58778116 @WohYeahWohYeah@KensingtonRoyal My grandfather died before my parents met, married or any of his grandchildren were born. Our dad would tell us stories about out grandfather as we were growing up to keep his memory alive. I treasure these stories, even though I never met him.
So after a wobbly start to the week, today has ended on a positive note. My PhD corrections have been approved (#PhinisheD) and to top it all off received a tax rebate from HMRC.
@LynnOnemare@Telegraph Yes, I do. Additional measures are taken in viral biology labs because of the self-infection risk & exposure to unnaturally high levels of viable viruses particles.
@Telegraph TRUE - mask wearing > fewer virus particles inhaled (more viral replication cycles needed for high viral load) > fewer infected cells > milder symptoms > immune system is not overwhelmed & has time to recognise & fight the infection before serious cellular damage & complications.
@mrdanwalker@GavinWilliamson Although it’s devastating for affected students. Colleges, Uni’s & employers will be understanding in respect to grades this year. Once you have a degree, no one cares what you got in your GCSE’s/A-levels; they‘re stepping stones to greater things! 2
@mrdanwalker@GavinWilliamson There was always going to be complaints over grades this year. Why weren’t alternative assessments e.g. open book exams considered? UK Uni’s have used this format successfully in 2020; this would‘ve been fairer & easily implemented (exams written pre-March & examiners hired). 1
@ManuPag@Maryam_Eslami I agree when studying in US, I was shocked by regular advertisement of ”active shooter” training sessions. I didn’t know this was a thing before living in US. This would NEVER be offered in UK because most of the pop. don’t have guns & that type of violence is rare in Uni’s.
@Maryam_Eslami As a research student. US: less stressful (no hard deadlines for thesis submission), more physical space. UK: stressful work environment & lots of people politics; my theory land is limited and everyone is on top of each other. Lack of physical research space causes conflict.
@BmcLomas@LawrenceDunhill All equipment bought was brand new state of the art (ie very expensive!). When the nightingale hospitals get dismantled there are plans to distribute the equipment to NHS trusts/sites in greatest need. During building each hospital, speed was more important than cost.
@HaselSophie @MicrobiomDigest It depends, e.g. clonal plants grown aseptically in a controlled environment = very similar if not identical. Usually lab grown plants = very similar as less environmental variation. This study only used 2 greenhouse grown plants per treatment; more reps would be better!
@YANLucy@NCADandPGroup I will have a full read of this tomorrow (only looked at the abstract) and get back to you. It’s too late to read this tonight! You might find this interesting

@YANLucy@NCADandPGroup 2/ as a lab tech you FREQUENTLY wash your hands. Masks should be prioritised for frontline staff at the greatest risk e.g. staff in a&e.
@YANLucy@NCADandPGroup Yes & no. I don’t work at this trust so don’t know their set up but I am an NHS employee. Often in this type of work there are very few people in the same room (max 3) as different parts of the test have to be performed in separate rooms e.g. molecular biology in a ‘clean’ room.
I am ringing the alarm.
We have now found >400 papers that all share a very similar title layout, graph layout, and (most importantly) the same Western blot layout.
This is a massive #PaperMill of (what we assume) fabricated data.
