Looking at this fresh YouGov poll, the so-called Burnham effect already looks like it's burning out before he even gets near No.10.

Yes, 19% of Britons say they'd be more likely to vote Labour if Andy Burnham became leader. But dig into the numbers and it proves one thing: the Burnham effect is largely recycled from within the left.

Among Green voters, 24% say they'd be more likely to vote Labour. Among Lib Dem voters it's 27%. Labour's own voters are even more enthusiastic. Meanwhile, just 6% of Conservative voters and a mere 3% of Reform voters say Burnham would make them more likely to back Labour.

In other words, Burnham is not really expanding Labour's reach. He's mostly reshuffling voters who already sit somewhere on the left.

A solid Mayor? Certainly. But if this is the great Burnham surge, Labour might want to ask for a refund.

The almighty trinity stands two heads above the rest, reducing 100+ MPs to mere decorations. Stalin could hardly have done it better.
