Why this case matters and how to follow it? Here is what you need to know about the largest human rights court battle in EU history next week.

🏳️‍🌈𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗖-𝟲𝟳𝟵/𝟮𝟮: 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘃. 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘆
Next Tuesday, on 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟵, the Court of Justice of the European Union will hold a landmark hearing on Hungary's Anti-LGBTIQ+ Law, modelled after Putin's 2013 propaganda law. Under the pretence of protecting children, the law restricts LGBTIQ+ rights by:
•  Censoring inclusive sex education
•  Equating LGBTIQ+ people with paedophilia
•  Blocking adoption for LGBTQI+ couples
•  Restricting LGBTQI+ content in media and advertising
•  Restricting the selling of books with LGBTQI+ characters.

⚖️ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:
This is the EU's largest human rights court battle to date, uniting 16 Member States, the European Parliament, and the European Commission against Hungary. The Full Chamber, which adjudicates only 0.1% of cases, will decide the outcome. A ruling against Hungary could:
— Force other EU Member States to repeal similar laws (e.g. Bulgaria, Lithuania)
— Deter countries considering such laws (e.g. Slovakia, Romania, Italy).
— Impact EU accession talks for countries with anti-LGBTIQ+ laws (e.g. Georgia).
