I cannot say this enough. Schools cannot hold up the whole world. Housing, jobs, dentistry, doctors: we need other policy areas to work if there’s any chance at improving children’s lives.
I’m not on here very often now, but I just had to come and rave about The Vulpine by Polly Crosby! I picked it up this morning and have ripped through 100 pages. Can’t wait to finish it! Already fairly sure I’m going to buy a set for tutor reads. #BookTwitter#Literacy#library

82 kids turned up to this today. We had a whole library countdown from ten before I pulled the winning name out of the raffle, as well as a tabletop drumroll! So much fun. Created a real buzz in the #library - can’t wait for tomorrow!
Thursday sees the kick off of my first ever Library Winter Countdown! Giving away a book a day for ten days, kids just need to complete the quiz/puzzle of the day to enter a raffle which we’ll pull a winner from at the end of each lunch. Can’t wait!
🚨 School libraries & librarians are vital to education!
We stand with @CILIPinfo, @CILIPSLG , @GreatSchLibs, @UKSLA & @ASCELUK in advocating for their role in the schools. Properly resourced libraries break barriers & equip young people for future success.

So I hoofed my way through The Invasion by @TheCallYA within 48 hours of owning it! Just in time, too, as all the gorgeous new books I ordered for the library last week arrived. Making a start on what promises to be a delectable read by @hafsahfaizal - A Tempest of Tea!
"These benefits [of reading] are becoming a kind of invisible privilege. This has gone on long enough. The bad news is that we are at risk of losing a generation. The good news is that the solution is in our hands"
- Children's Laureate @frankcottrell_b#GrowAGenerationOfReaders
@Hickesy 160 public library closures in recent years doesn’t help either, alongside often woeful underfunding of school libraries with qualified staff! I’m lucky because my school really value my library and me, but I know a lot of schools are not so lucky and students miss out massively.
8/9 A fully funded school library run by a qualified librarian can change lives. It’s proved time and time again. Every school needs a library and every library a librarian. That’s one way to get books in children’s hands and encouraging a life-long love of reading...
This has been reshared a lot recently. Many #schoollibrarians are sharing stats which show that reading in their schools is not in decline-quite the reverse. The evidence is clear: having a librarian in school can build and embed a reading culture. Follow us to find out more.
The decimation of libraries probably affects under 5s - the age where reading for pleasure is established - more than any other group. Books for little kids are short and expensive, but you used to be able to go to a library and take 5 different ones home every week.
@Lillustrator @phoenixcomicuk I am very pleased to hear this. I may run my library for students, but there’s an admin assistant in our school who’s a bit obsessed with Evil Emperor Penguin! I’ll let her know forthwith 😂
So I’m on page 153 of The Call by Peadar O’Guillan - @TheCallYA - and I don’t think I’ve actually taken a breath since I started. Even Eddie the cat is cowering in terror (or being annoyed that I’m disturbing his sleep, one or the other). Help!
@TheCallYA Many more thanks for writing it! And apologies that I seem to have massacred the spelling of your last name in my original tweet🤦🏼♀️
Honestly though, I’m a school librarian and I already have a list of four kids I’m going to recommend it to who I know will love it. Brilliant.
