Fantastic work by the @Walczak_Lab . Congratulations to all authors for this amazing work now avaialble on Nature cell biology @NaturePortfolio. A new chapter for immune-signalling.
A must read!!!!
Excited to share our new work uncovering a previously unknown mechanism identifying ANKIB1 as the E3 ligase that writes a critical new letter of the ubiquitin code central for immune signalling: K11-linked ubiquitin https://t.co/B9BQpsaVeV

Reading the comments both under this post and under Nature’s obituary of Watson, it is impossible not to see how deeply ingrained sexism and abuse of power still are in science and beyond. Rosalind Franklin’s case was not only a tragedy of erasure, but an example of how authority and privilege once dictated who was allowed to define discovery itself. What is shocking is how many still defend the indefensible, revealing an almost atavistic belief in superiority and entitlement — the same mindset that enabled the abuse of power against Franklin in the first place
Thrilled to share our latest paper in Cell Death Discovery!

Together with my fantastic co-senior and co-corresponding author @vonKarstedtLab , we uncovered that the BTK inhibitor ibrutinib has a previously unrecognized role in disrupting redox balance and priming DLBCL cells for ferroptosis.
We show that ibrutinibchemically scavenges glutathione (GSH) and represses GPX4 translation, thereby amplifying lipid ROS and triggering ferroptotic cell death. This defines ferroptosis as a mechanistic foundation for additive therapy in aggressive and apoptosis-resistant DLBCL.
This was a truly collaborative effort, driven by the exceptional first author Anuschka Langpape. Deep thanks also to all authors and our brilliant collaborators across Cologne for their creativity, hard work, and committment.

Biggest congratulations to Sid Balachandran and his lab for yet another amazing piece of work on Z-RNA/ZBP1.
Turns out, it all starts with the DoTT.
