Find me: @lidiyaconductor 🦋
Fiercely committed advocate for Slavic masterpieces, operatic rarities & contemporary works on the leading edge of classical music.
Looking forward to working with the superb and sensitive musicians of @omahasymphony again! Can’t wait to conduct Bluebeard’s Castle – a brilliant orchestral work, as well as an incredible piece of music theater – in their beautiful hall.

Diana Dubrovsky taught me piano when I was a child – she always saw my potential and believed in me, pushed me to do hard things and be excellent, and encouraged me to take on challenges. She came to my @nwsymphony concert – the first time we’ve seen each other since I was ~13!
Tonight, we kick off @SanDiegoOpera's 60th anniversary season with La bohème – the same Puccini opera that officially launched the company in 1965!

In today’s world, we’re constantly bombarded with stimuli, so it's even more powerful to experience music in a symphony hall – one of the few spaces left where we focus on one thing in a communal way.
Join us at @nashvillesymph this weekend!
Before @LidiyaConductor appears with the @nashvillesymph (and guest violinist Simone Porter) as guest conductor for the Wagner and Dvořák program, contributor @amystumpfl catches up with the renowned maestro.

I had a magnificent experience at @operaaustralia – can’t wait to return in 2025 for a new production of Carmen! Thrilled to re-team with the superb musicians + talented collaborators behind the scenes in the gorgeous Sydney Opera House. 📸 Keith Saunders

That's a wrap on 23/24 and ✨8 cover stories✨ is our new season record! Thrilled to see clients in an incredible range of mainstream media + industry outlets. MASSIVE gratitude for our fab artists and partners – we have way more fun at work than most and it's all thanks to you!!
I’m eagerly looking forward to embarking on new creative projects – and perhaps even finding time to play my (lately quite neglected) piano.
Keep an eye on my calendar for upcoming performances, and stay tuned for exciting collaborations to be announced soon!

As summer winds down, my time as Music Director of Chicago Opera Theater is officially coming to an end. It’s been an incredible journey, with truly inspiring people and the most fantastic art-making.
I could not be more grateful to every artist and staff member involved in the creative process and our exceptionally dedicated, thoughtful board, who backed every idea I brought to them.
I cannot wait to see where COT goes next under Larry Edelson’s vision and leadership!

Canonic composers learned by doing, failing, and doing again. This is no longer the norm in opera, where creators rarely get the opportunity to change and experiment. As a result, the biggest innovators could be discarded before they truly begin.

Operatic innovation
With funding for new work an ever-shrinking resource, conductor Lidiya Yankovskaya tailors her approach to the budget available and – along with her peers - makes the case for experimentation in opera @LidiyaConductor

Grateful for this inspiring community of conductors that @marinalsop has created. Visibility, mentorship, and support are critical for every artist – and absolutely essential if change is to take place. Thank you to Kristin Jurkscheit, @raviniafestival, and @takialsop.
In Il Trittico, Puccini incorporates sound effects like cat meowing, sheep bleating, and flatulence – all in the orchestration! We also hear car horns. The pitches aren’t notated in the score, so Principal Percussionist Kevin Man and I auditioned several horns for color/pitch. 🤓
