@eawickham Come on, you take into account only the facts that validate your theory. Tesla's stock market was down because the actual CEO was MIA. Of course if he leaves the company, the position won't be vacant but filled, no?
@eawickham That's amazing for them, but you agree with me that 4400 people is a drop in the ocean, no? When we're talking about hundreds of billions of dollars, the impact should be measured in tens of millions of people, not 4k
@eawickham There's no need to fire anyone since Tesla or SpaceX employees are paid through company revenues, by selling cars, etc. He's not "supporting" 170k families, he could leave Tesla leadership tomorrow and everyone could still work as of today... And he isn't even CEO at SpaceX btw
@edclements@Zortman33 To answer your valid point, I think the current system where billionaires never sell their shares but borrow against them, which allows them to evade taxation, is where reforms should take place
@eawickham Why always choose the extreme position? I'm not saying we should seize 100% of his fortune, ffs. I have nothing against the rich remaining rich, simply that these lines should evolve in a similar way to some extent. Taxing in a more consistent way ≠ seizing all his shares
@edclements@Zortman33 Nowhere did I say that we should seize all his money and prevent him from starting businesses and paying his employees, simply that I think that these lines should evolve together in a somewhat consistent manner, which is obviously not the case
@Zortman33 I didn't say that all the world's problems stem from Musk ffs, I'm simply saying that these curves evolving in completely disparate ways isn't sustainable. And I'm not saying we should seize 99% of his fortune, no, but we should remain a bit reasonable...
@edclements@Zortman33 I'm not saying we should take all his money and prevent him from starting businesses, it's about the order of magnitude, that trillions wouldn't be useful to him for that, while millions of people with jobs can no longer afford food, decent housing, or healthcare.
@eawickham I'm not saying he shouldn't earn any reward for his investment, of course he should, my point is about the order of magnitude, having trillions of dollars while people with jobs can't afford housing, enough to eat, healthcare, etc. I didn't say we should seize all his assets
@edclements@Zortman33 His money is not used as employees are paid with the money coming into the company, not Musk's money. Idk why you claim that I agree with your point bc I don't...
@edclements@Zortman33 Tesla and SpaceX run on their own cash flows, markets, customers, and contracts (private and government). Musk doesn't need to inject his fortune, or only limited sums at the beginning. His trillion dollars fortune is not at all essential to the operation of his companies

@edclements@Zortman33 Again, that's not the point. It's about people who work honestly every day but still don't have the means to meet their basic needs like food, decent housing, and access to medical care. While mountains of money remain unused in the handful of a few
@RobertoOLynch@CouldntBePapaP@earlyvotedata Neither will the far right, they'll make a lot of populist expenditures. The conservative right might be the most serious on the subject, but they prefer to campaign on identity politics
