As 2024 draws to a close and Christmas edges ever closer, we want to take a moment to wish all of our wonderful clients, their carers, our volunteers, regular and one-off-donors - including those who have left us a gift in their will, or donated in memory of a loved one - those who have visited CafeLife, who have attended or run classes at our hub, anyone who has taken part in a fundraising activity, and all of the charitable trusts, foundations and corporates who have supported LifeCare this year a restful festive period and a happy and healthy 2025.

✨CafeLife - closes 2pm on 24th Dec, reopens 9am 6th Jan
✨Day Services - closed from 25th Dec, reopen 3rd Jan
✨Outreach - closed public holidays only, service open - Dec 23rd, 24th, 27th, 30th, 31st and 3rd Jan
✨Help at Home - Shopping etc for clients who have requested this 23rd, 24th, 30th and 31st Jan, service returns to normal 3rd Jan
✨Saturday Social - open on 21st Dec (12.30pm - 3.30pm) and 31st Dec (12.30pm - 3.30pm) returning to normal from 4th Jan

Things got festive this week at our free classes and activities for unpaid carers. A huge thank you to our wonderful class teachers for the fabulous support you provide. 🎅🎄

If you're an unpaid carer looking for a chance to unwind and look after your physical and mental health, why not pop along to one of our free health and wellbeing sessions? Claire is the main carer for her 87 year old Mum, and finds LifeCare's free health and wellbeing activities for unpaid carers a "lifeline". Coming along to the classes allow Claire to look after her physical and mental wellbeing and to connect with others in a similar position, so she doesn't feel so isolated.

Jenny is a full time carer for her husband, Will, who has cancer. Though she finds being his carer incredibly rewarding, its not without its challenges. Jenny regularly attends LifeCare's free health and wellbeing classes for unpaid carers - which she is "so grateful" for. Coming to the classes enables her to look after her body, but also her mind, as she has found friendship and comfort in the other carers that come along.

Thank you to @julietdunlop rom @GMB who visited LifeCare yesterday ahead of today's Scottish Budget to hear about the challenges facing charities and their vital services 🚨

The impact of the Employer National Insurance rise, on top of local government cuts, rising costs and demand for our services is huge.

Without Westminster or the Scottish Government doing something to mitigate the additional cost of the National insurance rise we will have to cut vital support to local older people and unpaid carers.

We urge @scotgov to recognise that we deliver public services on behalf of local authorities and we need to be protected in order to support those most vulnerable in our society.

In 2016, David was diagnosed with dementia and beloved wife of 57 years, Rita, became his full time carer. In 2022, David started getting support from LifeCare meaning he can enjoy days filled with fun and friendships - and Rita can enjoy a well deserved break. This is even more important during the winter months, which can be difficult and isolating.
