Narcissists are all about image. They create a false self for the external world to see - which often comes across as charming, moralistic, kind, considerate, and "perfect".
• Meanwhile, behind closed
doors they are the world's biggest hypocrites.
They will pathologically lie, cheat, verbally assault, and completely destroy their family with zero remorse. What you see, is NOT what you get behind closed doors.
Facts
NOBODY watches you harder than jealous-spirited people. They are obsessed with your energy, so they will always try to manipulate, siphon, and extinguish it. They low-key compete with you, throw shade at you, judge you, and end up copying you.
Narcissists believe they can author your identity—who you are, what you feel, what you said, what your intentions are, what your worth is.
They don’t just want control over your emotions; they want control over your character and public image.
That’s why they:
-Tell you who you “really are”
-Rewrite your character
-Redefine your emotions for you
-Assign you roles (villain, burden, unstable, selfish, etc.)
-Act like their interpretation is more real than your lived experience
It’s psychological colonization. If they can define you, they own you.
And when you refuse that—when you think for yourself and ignore their twisted fantasy—it destabilizes them. That’s why they escalate, smear, gaslight, or rage. You’re removing their perceived authority over reality.
Narcissists don’t just envy you — they become obsessed with you.
And that obsession is a problem for them, because it’s visible. People can sense when someone’s fixation on another person crosses a line. So the narcissist has to reframe it.
They can’t say “I resent this person because they have something I want.”
So instead they say: “This person is dangerous. You should be afraid of them.”
They take their own hatred — rooted entirely in envy — and repackage it as a warning. Suddenly their obsessive targeting looks like concern. Their aggression looks like self-defense. Their smear campaign looks like people just… finding out the truth.
What they’re really doing is recruiting. They need other people to fear their target because their own feelings of resentment and hatred need external validation. If they can make you afraid of the person they envy, then their obsession feels justified. Their attack feels righteous.
The target didn’t do anything. They just existed in a way the narcissist couldn’t tolerate.
People only try to humble you when you truly stand out. If you were average they’d simply ignore you. Their jealousy is nothing but a compliment in disguise.
A narcissist operates under a private set of RULES that only ever applies to you. They are free to demean, dismiss, speak harshly, and behave without consideration. That is simply who they are. But the moment you object, respond, or draw a line around your own dignity, you have become the aggressor. Suddenly your self-defense is the PROBLEM. Their behavior disappears from the record entirely and is replaced by a version of events in which you are difficult, irrational, and impossible to deal with. They will not examine what they have done. The mirror never faces them.
In their world, they are simply never the one at fault.

Smearing is spreading false narratives about you to prevent alliance and destroy credibility.
A narrative spreads. About you. It's not true. Or it's partially true but weaponized. But it spreads.
People you trust hear it. People you don't know hear it. Your reputation becomes the narrative instead of your actual behavior.
Here's what's observable: the narrative is carefully constructed. It takes grains of truth and weaponizes them. It's specific enough to seem credible. It's vague enough that you can't refute it.
And it spreads through invisible channels. You don't know who's saying it. You can't reach it. You can't correct it.
The mechanism: establish a narrative about you before you can establish your own truth. Prevent alliance through destroying your credibility.
By the time you know it's happening, the narrative is already established. People have already heard their version. Reaching them feels impossible.
Once you notice that people are treating you differently for reasons you don't understand, you hear fragments of narrative you can't reach, your reputation is being constructed without your input, you've seen the code.
Stop dealing with people who have nobody in their life holding them accountable. Those type of people will do you wrong, justify it, and then gather a bunch of other unaccountable mfs to back them up. Next thing you know, you getting gaslit for reacting to THEIR behavior.
Narcissists and psychopaths develop an unhealthy fixation and obsession with people who they can't control, people who are unpredictable, people who surpass them, people who stand up to them, and people who evoke their envy. They fear these people so they try to manipulate and destroy them to regain control. However, such people are often protected by the universe in ways they cannot understand. Any attempt to take from and violate these people will only result in the narcissist's exposure.
