Israel spent years cultivating former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a potential intelligence asset and possible leader in a post-regime Iran.
As part of the effort, Israeli intelligence met with him abroad, including in Hungary, using academic events as cover for secret meetings.
The plan culminated during the 2026 Israel-Iran war, when Mossad operatives extracted Ahmadinejad from Tehran following an Israeli airstrike on his compound and took him to a safe house inside Iran as part of a broader regime-change operation.
The operation ultimately failed after Ahmadinejad left the safe house under unclear circumstances.
According to Iranian officials, he is now under house arrest after authorities uncovered his alleged contacts with Israel.

John Bolton on Trump:
Trump is trolling people. In the first term, I was in his office once. He was dictating a tweet, and he told the person typing the tweet, "Capitalize all the letters in that last sentence."
Then he turned to me and said, "Do you know why I just said that?" I said, "No, why?" And he said, "Because it drives them crazy."
So why does he talk about taking Greenland? Because it drives them crazy.

Otto Skorzeny in his memoirs writes:
"If Hitler underestimated the Russian soldiers in the beginning, he made a serious mistake. We had a superior strategy...but from the common soldier to company commander the Russian soldiers were the equal of the German. Brave, tough, and with an outstanding sense for camouflage, they put up astonishingly bitter resistance and walked en masse and with unbelievable fatalism into certain death."
This is a common theme in Euro-Rus relations, the former cannot understand the latter, at times choosing to label it as fragile and barbaric while believing itself to be civilized, which of course works to the latter's advantage.
🇺🇸🇮🇱 Democrat Rahm Emanuel on Israel: "You've lost Europe, your biggest economic partner and market.
In 2022, 55% of Americans held a favorable view of Israel.
Today, it is 37%, and it is dropping.
You lost America, you lost Europe, and you picked up Somaliland. Such a deal."
