@JohnLeePettim13 Don’t do this on common rail diesels. His IDI has a pop pressure around 1800psi. Modern common rails see over 10k psi at cruise. Plus new style injectors are a much finer nozzle that will clog on this mix. If you have an IDI or a 12v Cummins, run this with a touch of ATF.
@PelagicLoup Diesels are expensive. Worthwhile if you actually need one. But expensive. Most are better off in a 1/2 ton if they want a truck. If you can afford to take care of it, it’ll last longer than the gas version of any brand. Most can’t do payment and maintenance. Looks cool tho.
@dixiecuts@2006Sable Ethanol isn’t bad tho, I run E-85 in my Ford 5.0 (12:1 CR) in the summer. Generally $1 cheaper than premium in my area and I only lose 15-20% in mileage. ECU throws timing at it since it’s so resistant to knock. Plus less dense summer air uses less fuel. 15% benefit in cost/mile.
@dixiecuts@2006Sable She’d benefit more from pure gas. Non-ethanol is more energy dense than blended. However, 91/93 pure gas is better than 87 pure. Less knock -> more timing -> more power -> better fuel economy. Cost benefit depends on fuel prices and difference in mileage and fuel cost.
@JDRockwellJr GMT-800s (99-07 GM Trucks) used to be bargains. Easily go 300k. Transmission is biggest weakness. 4L60E is 4LShitty. Now I see rusted out shitboxes for $6k and nice ones for 10k. Truly a bummer.
@ThatsCapitals@JDRockwellJr I feel like we’re getting into repair vs maintenance. This thread is about changing spark plugs, coils, brakes, and oil changes. I think functioning adults should be capable of this basic maintenance. It’s not impossible or high skill.
@ThatsCapitals@JDRockwellJr Maintenance vs repair. Maintenance is typically planned, you can use the vehicle you’re working on to rent tools from AutoZone/Oreilly’s before you tear it apart. Put the tools in you bedroom? It’s a 2’x1’x1’ box. Make a nightstand or something.
@CaminskyMatthew@JDRockwellJr I’m using that exact kit to remove lower unit of my boat to do gimbal bearing and boots while this thread is going. Used it 2 weeks ago to do a front hub assembly on my 4x4 F150. I didn’t say the $215 would make it easy, just possible. $300 worth of tools = cheaper than shop rate
@fishguy907@JDRockwellJr I’m not sure where you’re coming up with that kind of statement from. I literally said you should depose of used oil properly. Why would I advocate for someone to leave oil (or any waste) on someone else’s property?
@fishguy907@JDRockwellJr Apartment property management could have an issue for sure. Either be nice to the lady in the office or hide in the corner of the parking lot and knock an oil change out in 15 min. Dispose your oil properly, please. Leaving waste ln the ground will always create issues.
@CaminskyMatthew@JDRockwellJr Theres a 5/8 and 13/16 in this kit. You can do spark plugs. Metric from 4-27. You can do everything else you listed. I don’t expect the general public to change hubs or cv’s. But you could. What do you actually see missing? A filter wrench is missing. They’re $7.
@ChrisAPofahl@SuperTruckerOTR@GreeneElizabeth CDL weight requirements aren’t based on actual load. They go off of theoretical load. Trailer has 2 10k axles. So it’s GVWR is 20k. Assuming is a Ram 1-ton dually, 14k GVWR. 34k combined. Needs CDL. I assume he has one. Paper tags or not.
