🌳In deciduous forests, can we predict leaf-out w/ @PhenoCam and net carbon uptake using a simple soil-air temperature model first proposed by @BerkeleyBiomet in 2005?

🌲California just launched its first Carbon Flux Tower in a redwood forest!
Located in CAL FIRE’s Jackson Demonstration State Forest (JDSF), the new tower tracks how carbon, water, and energy move between the forest and the atmosphere—providing scientists with real-time insights into how redwood ecosystems respond to a changing climate.
Last month, JDSF welcomed the Governor’s 30x30 Committee for the ribbon cutting, celebrating a major step forward in forest and climate research. 🔬
As a living laboratory in the heart of the redwood region, JDSF continues to lead the way in sustainable forest management and climate innovation.

Today, @savetheredwoods, Yurok Tribe, and @RedwoodNPS signed an historic agreement committing to return tribal land back to the Yurok Tribe. For more info - https://t.co/7FOb0WDYEl
I'm still glowing from seeing all of my science friends last week at #AGU23 and lab members thrive🥹
Especially @LilyKlinek who won the Forest Ecophysiology oral presentation award sponsored by @LICOR_ENV!
Looking forward to #AGU23! Come find these great scientists and humans from the Plant Optics Lab
