Ximm's Law: every critique of AI assumes to some degree that contemporary implementations will not, or cannot, be improved upon.
Lemma: any statement about AI which uses the word "never" to preclude some feature from future realization is false.
Anthropic is fine with open source AI as long as it’s not good enough to threaten their monopoly.
his words: “the scaling of open-source models is going a very dangerous path.”
your access to uncontrolled Opus-level models, will not be tolerated.
The whole reason Anthropic has been able to secure and retain talent is due to the narrative he engineered that they are the heroes and only they can be trusted to create and infer models.
Regulatory capture and banning OS models is a natural byproduct of this mental bias.
>Goes 1 for 12 with failed live service games
>Mass layoffs and studio closures
>Lights billions on fire
>Stops development on Destiny 2
PlayStation:
- Bungie fans sad because their studio is dead
- DC fans sad because Supergirl is DOA
- PS fans sad because PS wants to double down on live service slop
Meanwhile the chuds:
Enjoying sexualized females on Marvel Rivals, Asian games and indies, and also good movies like Citizen Vigilante and The Furious, and aslo the AAA Western dev crash
Happy Friday everyone!
- Bungie devs owned the chuds and are now working at McDonald's
- Supergirl is universally hated, even by the gay Hollywood journos, and is guaranteed to flop
- GTAVI going full digital, costing $80, having content locked behind paywall, being a console-only game is hinting at a videogame crash
- Citizen Vigilante is overshadowing Supergirl with ease
- Destiny is dead, and Marathon is up next
- Marvel Rivals is tripling down on their male audience with the Black Widow swimsuit skin
- Captain America denies the existance of Sam Wilson in Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls and is based
- Christian countries are winning the world cup
@Galcondude@Altimor@Pinarello_Pete People can leave France and move to the US, retard. For all the aforementioned reasons and then some. It's not surprising.
I'm loving this moment of pure eurobashing, but still don't think it goes far enough. The thing to understand is that Europe's rejection of something as basic as AC isn't an aberration, it's the tip of the iceberg. If they do this for AC, or literally shutting down their cleanest, cheapest energy source for an entire country, imagine what they do in more nuanced cases.
Highly recommend to sit down with a French person, buy them a beer, and ask them for stories. We all have dozens of them, each even crazier than the AC thing, and all perfectly representing how terminal the cultural rot is in Europe.
Good way to frame it.
Also, if even one person had died, we would know who they were!
Not one person has died from stopping waste & fraud at USAID! Obviously.
A number of people have responded to me in recent hours explaining that the West does not follow Western values now but that China does. There are continuous anti-government protests in front of the White House; in Beijing, doing the same would get you arrested and possibly not heard from again for a very long time.
Also, although the Chinese have dramatically reformed their economic sector, it still lives under the cloud of arbitrary and capricious applications of state power; American business people do not disappear into the detention system for political wrongthink, and it is credible when a large US company claims to protect the privacy of its users in a way that no Chinese company can.
We in the West are very self-critical, often forgetting how unusual and precious the system we live under is. There are many things I don't like of course. Am I happy that (say) the State of California spends tens of billions on trains to nowhere while the Chinese build infrastructure at a tremendous rate? Am I happy that the US kneecapped its nuclear industry at the behest of fools? No. But I am free to criticize that and to work to overcome such things in a way I would not be elsewhere.
(It is sad to me that this needs saying. It should be obvious. However, so many things should be obvious.)
If only some people tried to warn everyone about the dangers of overconcentrating AI power and how Doomers were going to be useful idiots in the end.
Oh wait.
