🚀 MARS LANDING HISTORY

The Soviet Union — not Russia — was the first to achieve a soft landing on Mars.

🇷🇺 1971 — Soviet Union: Mars 3 became the first spacecraft to successfully soft-land on Mars, but contact was lost roughly 20 seconds later.

🇺🇸 1976 — United States: Viking 1 achieved the first fully successful Mars landing and returned the first clear images from the surface.

🇨🇳 2021 — China: Tianwen-1’s Zhurong rover successfully landed in Utopia Planitia, making China the third country to achieve a successful operational Mars landing.

History matters: the Soviet achievement belongs to the USSR, not modern-day Russia.
