I’m writing these words with tears in my eyes, completely shocked and heartbroken after losing my friend, Mohammed, who was killed by Israel.

Every day, people in Gaza are being killed without warning. Every single person here lives with the fear that the next strike could take their life.

Today, it was my friend Mohammed. Tomorrow, it could be me, someone from my family, a child, a young person, an elderly person, or a woman.

This is our reality. This is what it means to live in Gaza.

I honestly don’t know what else to say. I am exhausted from watching people I know disappear one after another. I am tired of mourning, tired of being afraid, and tired of asking the world to simply see us.

Please, do something. Share our voices. Share what is happening. Follow me and help keep our stories from being forgotten.

I am asking every one of you: please, do whatever you can from wherever you are.

The situation in Gaza has become unimaginably devastating. We need the world to act before there is nothing left to save.

For the millionth time, I beg you:

Save what remains of Gaza before it is too late.

Don’t let Mohammed’s death become just another number.

I want to deal with the specious argument, that we can just let climate change happen, and then adapt to it. A specious argument, is an argument that looks superficially convincing, but on closer examination is totally spurious and false.

I will firstly use the facetious comments of Richard Tice, a shallow, very dishonest political operator. This is the simple explanation. He said:

“When it’s a bit warm, let’s enjoy it. And if it means that English wine and sparkling wine gets better and better, fantastic. That means we can take on the French – fantastic. Let’s celebrate some of these things rather than just be sort of doom and gloom about it.”

This is the old, it's warmer in Southern Europe crock of shit. Climate change is global, not confined to the UK, and we import nearly half of our food, and our economy is connected to the global economy. If the UK climate becomes Mediterranean, that means the Mediterranean climate will be more like the Sahara, and it will all come back to hit the UK very badly.

Tice tries to falsely claim there is no evidence we can stop warming. The man is a bare-faced liar, because there is masses of scientific evidence, that reducing CO2 emissions will reduce the degree of warming.

Reaching actual Net Zero isn't as simple as implementing Net Zero policy, because the expert opinion is that political Net Zero policy, won't result in actual Net Zero, because we need to go much further, but it will reduce warming. Richard Tice is simply lying, when he says it won't. Tice's lies are meant to take in gullible Reform voters, who accept other lies Reform tells, so Tice figures they will also fall for these lies. The leadership of Reform hold their voters in utter contempt, seeing them as stupid, when they are actually just misinformed, which is entirely different.

It gives me no please to say I predicted this in 1992, at a seminar just after the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, where the chair said, now we know what the problem is, we can solve it. I challenged him, about what scientists would do, when as sure as night follows day, governments rowed back on what they pledged, like they did after the first UN Environment Conference in 1972. At first, he started to argue with me, then slumped back in his seat, and said I was probably right.

The 1992 Rio Earth Summit only happened, because governments took no action, on the 1972 Action Plan. Saying, we'll take action is easy. But when your priority is economic growth, and the ecological polycrisis is being driven by the all out pursuit of economic growth, it is obvious that governments will renege on their pledges, or rather kick the can down the road to future generations of politicians. If you look, governments were well aware in 1972, that the ecological crisis was driven by the pursuit of economic growth, and that was 54 years ago. There was nothing particularly insightful about my observations, it just involved not being in denial of this long term trend.

Do not blame the public for this. Largely the public was behind action, and until Trump, nearly every government in the world had been promising to address the ecological/climate crisis. The public never stopped the administrations they voted for, taking the action they promised. It was just that the governments never did what they pledged because of vested interest lobbying, to pursue the singular goal of economic growth, and to put it above all else. Do not claim this was done for the public, because most of the profit made by economic growth, ended up in the hands of billionaires, big corporations and the very rich. With the gap between the rich and poor, growing wider and wider.
