It’s OFFICIAL: Scientist Johan Rockström has won the 2024 Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement! @jrockstrom is being recognized for his pioneering work on the “Planetary Boundaries” framework, a scientific guide to help keep the planet in a safe operating space. First published in 2009, the #planetaryboundaries determine the limits in which humanity can safely operate within the natural world, integrating the nine systems that determine the functioning and the state of the planet. They provide life-support to humans, and include systems we all rely upon, such as clean water, a stable climate, and vibrant biodiversity. Replacing animal source foods with plant-based alternatives would lead to substantial reductions in environmental impacts and be cost-competitive with the current average Swedish diet. @anne_bunge @sthlmresilience@LineGordon https://t.co/dTwiU5J2Mb

Sorgligt och tungt att SR känner sig tvingade att dra in tjänsten som klimatkorrespondent.
Oavsett om den skulle innehas av mig eller någon annan tycker jag att vi behöver MER klimatbevakning, inte mindre.

Congratulations to @anne_bunge, who has earned a spot on @AHallbarhet’s "33 under 33" list for shaping the future of sustainability! 🥳
At just 26, Charlotte is making waves with her research on transitioning to a healthier, sustainable food system. 🍽️🌿 https://t.co/uOF6eqv6Vg
It is with deep sadness we have learned that water pioneer Malin Falkenmark has passed away.
Her work helped envision water as the ‘bloodstream of the biosphere’. At the Centre, she was an inspiring teacher and mentor for many.

Sweden gets a national citizen assembly on climate!
Citizens' assemblies have been used elsewhere to proceed with deadlock issues. Now it will be tried in Sweden, to inform the nation's work on climate.

@GunnelaStahle @JennyJewert @WWFSverige@lantmannen Det om något är en förenkling. Det är inte köttkonsumtionen i sig som bidrar till biologisk mångfald. Det är styrmedel som gör det lönsamt att ha korna på bete.

Saleem was the global reference point on climate justice and development. His insights were invaluable and a powerful voice for the vulnerable people in the world. A major loss. His legacy will live on with us, not only as a leader on climate, but also as a humble team player
This is such a loss for the world. Thanks @SaleemulHuq2 for your commitment to climate resilient development. It was an honor to serve on the @grp_resilience advisory board with you.
It is with heavy hearts that we inform you about the passing away of our director, Prof. Saleemul Huq, on 29 October, 2023.
His unmatched legacy will remain as a shining example for years and generations to come.

MAJOR UPDATE: All planetary boundaries are assessed, and six are crossed.
For the first time ever, scientists have quantified all nine planetary boundaries. Six of them are already transgressed and we are increasing pressure on the others.

Such an interesting conversation with @sthlmresilience this afternoon.
After a very informative presentation of their work, we discussed how to bring experts into decision-making bodies, for the benefit of us all.
Thank you for having me again, I always learn so much from you.
17.23 °C is 3°C warmer than 14±0.5°C Earth over 12000 years, fr last Ice Age to Industrial Revolution. Now, we have 3rd Super-El Nino in 15 years. 91% of heat due to global warming is in oceans, reinforcing El Nino, causing massive heat & weather extremes
