As we're heading into PhD application season, I wrote a post with advice for applying to grad school, drawing from my experience on admissions committees.
Please share with any aspiring PhD students that you know! https://t.co/tthKWX8sNp
New article out in mSystems! 🎉📜 I am so proud of this one and the data we obtained, linking microalgal microbiome compositions to potential functionality and to specific hosts🦠

My lab is searching for a postdoc in microbiology/microbial metabolomics!
Are you a biologist who is secretly realizing you might be a mass spec nerd? If so, I can relate and I'd love to work with you!

Today the Movement for a Free Academia is launching #theGothenburgManifesto to call for an academic system built on en ethics of care, openness, trust and integrity. I encourage all academics to heed this call by reading and signing the manifesto at https://t.co/Mrf8hFHXmf.
Congratulations to the recipients of a DDF Sapere Aude Research Leader grant from @DFF_raad 🎉 While I await feedback on why I wasn't selected for the program, my interview raised some concerns for me and I believe it's crucial to share my experience. 🧵#dkforsk
For queer & transgender (trans) scientists, microbiology conferences can be sources of alienation & isolation. In #mSystems, advice to help conference organizers design inclusive, safe & welcoming conferences, where queer & trans scientists can flourish. https://t.co/45g52hceB4
#Microbiome twitter, we are looking for negative control samples from as many sources and kits as possible. If you've included blanks in your 16S or ITS amplicon seq project and the data is publicly available, drop a link in the thread!
RTs appreciated!

Highly recommended PhD position when you are interested in host-symbiont interactions. Great group of people, supportive mentor, and an awesome environment. Any 👇
Thanks all for an amazing couple of days at the @DTUbioengineer PhD summer school @metalskolen!
I had such a good time and was so honored to win the Henrik Dam award for best talk in a field of so many good speakers doing amazing science 🦠🧬🧫🧪💊
To the #diatom/#protist aficionados out there: out of all the diatoms in the ocean, what percentage of them exist as solitary cells, meaning without any other species attached to/inside them (no bacteria, protist, virus etc) ? I get answers from 0-100%...
This call is already identifying hundreds if not low thousands of new microbial metabolites. This is a key step to functionally characterize and mechanistically understand the microbiome. Would be great to have many other labs be part. Worth applying.
