Attorney Ryan C. Johnsen recently secured a $1.65 million jury verdict on behalf of a Western New York woman who suffered injuries as the result of medical malpractice during thyroid surgery.
Following a seven-day trial in New York State Supreme Court, the jury found in favor of Ryan Johnsen’s client, awarding $1.65 million in compensation for the injuries she sustained.
The victim in this matter sought treatment of a benign mass on her thyroid. The doctor treating the victim recommended an invasive and unnecessary thyroidectomy surgery. The doctor was negligent during surgery, which caused permanent injuries.
After the trial, attorney Ryan Johnsen stated “This verdict reflects the importance of holding healthcare providers accountable when patients are harmed by preventable medical errors. We are grateful that the jury carefully considered the evidence and delivered justice for our client.”

Each year, the month of May is designated as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
As warmer weather arrives, motorcycle riders return to the roads to enjoy the freedom and excitement of riding season. With increased traffic on the highways, it is essential for all motorists to remain alert and share the roads safely with motorcyclists. Riders should also understand their rights and be prepared for the unfortunate possibility of a motorcycle accident.
As a fellow rider, attorney Michael Stuermer understands the joy, responsibility, and potential risks that all motorcyclists face when they take to the highway. Michael recently provided answers to frequently asked questions, regarding motorcycle accidents and safety, as a resource for fellow motorcycle riders.

Attorney Bill Moore, who recently secured a $3.75 million result for a client injured in a boating accident, has created a resource for boaters, which provides answers to several frequently asked questions about boating safety, accidents, and the legal issues that can arise after a boating injury.
Every year, nearly 100 million people go boating on lakes, rivers, bays, and oceans across the United States, drawn by the freedom, relaxation, and adventure that comes with spending time on the water with family and friends.
While boating can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience, unfortunately, boating accidents occur at an alarming rate. To help address these risks, the United States Coast Guard, in partnership with the National Safe Boating Council, designates the week leading into Memorial Day as National Safe Boating Week.
In an effort to help educate and protect members of the community around National Safe Boating Week and throughout the boating season, Bill Moore has provided answers to the following FAQs on boating accidents. The Erie County Medical Examiner's Office recently ruled Nurul Amin Shah Alam’s death a homicide.
Shah Alam was a mostly blind refugee from Myanmar, who was found dead days after he was dropped off, miles from his home, by federal U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.
As part of @WGRZ’s ongoing coverage of this story, attorney Barry Covert sat down for an in-studio interview to provide legal analysis.
Over the course of his conversation with WGRZ anchors @ScottLevinTV and @ClaudineWgrz, Barry Covert provided legal analysis and addressed several questions, including:
· Now that an autopsy has ruled Shah Alam's death a homicide, will someone be charged with a crime in this matter?
· What criteria does the medical examiner use to categorize a death as a homicide?
· How does the health commissioner’s definition of a homicide differ from the definition used to determine if criminal charges will be filed?
· Given the facts of the case, could criminal charges such as manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide, be proven beyond a reasonable doubt against the federal agents involved in this matter?
· Given the preponderance of evidence, could federal agents be held liable for Shah Alam’s death in a civil lawsuit?
· What actions do you anticipate the district attorney and state attorney general will take going forward?
