The beautiful light and soft focus of this 1908 Autochrome plate makes the mysterious woman look half painting & half-forgotten dream. It was taken in colour 118 years ago by Heinrich Kühn, an Austrian–German photographer and photography pioneer. The image is called "Mary Warner In Back Light".
I find all of Kühn's Autochrome plates share a very soft, ethereal quality to them which makes his style instantly recogniseable, almost like oil paintings. I find them quite transportive.
I have cleaned-up this plate which was taken using an early colour process and isn't colourised.

This is one of my favourite Norman Rockwell paintings, and it captures a moment almost everyone lives through: the day you first look in the mirror and wonder if you are enough…

It is called Girl at Mirror, made by Rockwell for the Saturday Evening Post in 1954. A young girl, maybe eleven or twelve, sits on the floor in front of a mirror. A doll lies beside her, tipped over and forgotten. On her lap is an open magazine turned to a photograph of a glamorous grown woman, and the girl looks from the picture to her own reflection, comparing, measuring, wondering. A lipstick and a comb sit within reach. She has been experimenting. She is trying the future on.

Everything is in that small gap between the doll and the magazine: behind her, on the floor, is childhood, the toy she has just set down. In her lap is the future, the woman she is straining to imagine becoming. She is sitting exactly on the line between the two, and Rockwell caught her in the very act of crossing it, the moment a child stops simply being herself and begins to wonder how she will be seen.

There is no vanity on her face, only doubt. She is not admiring herself. She is studying herself, the way we all learn to do and then never quite stop, holding her own reflection against someone else's and coming away unsure. Rockwell always said he painted life as he wished it to be, but here he let himself paint something different: the first ache of self-consciousness settling into a child who, only a moment ago, was still just an innocent child.

You want to kneel down next to her and tell her to wait. You want to tell her she had it right the first time, before the world leaned in and taught her to doubt, back when the mirror was only a thing you made faces in, and the doll on the floor was still the most interesting thing in the room...

I asked God for a sign.

Not a subtle sign. I was thinking something dramatic.

You know, like a burning bush. A voice from heaven. Maybe a cloud formation shaped like a Bible verse.

Something that would make me stop and say, “Okay Lord, I get it.”

Instead, God sent me a dog.

A furry, four legged, food motivated disciple who follows me into every room like he’s my personal security detail.

Bathroom? He’s there.

Kitchen? He’s supervising.

Trying to have a quiet moment with God? He’s staring at me like he’s waiting for me to confess why I haven’t shared my sandwich.

I kept looking for some grand, miraculous sign while God was saying, “I already sent you someone who thinks you’re the greatest person on earth, celebrates when you come home, and would follow you into a burning building.”

So I was expecting a burning bush…

when I already had a furry one.

Sometimes God’s signs don’t come with smoke and thunder.

Sometimes they come with muddy paws, a wagging tail, and someone who thinks every walk is a spiritual adventure.

Eliminate minimum wage? Cruel.

Cut entitlements and national debt? You want to kill grandma.

Mass deportations? Racist.

Teach people to be frugal? Out of touch.

The only “winning” political message will always be the Leftist proposal which usually amounts to “raise minimum wage to 1000/hr, start a U.S. Burrito Department, and give everyone a free burrito voucher,” which, by the way, is how you end up with a $150 burrito.

Welcome to conservatism. You’re the adult, and the “bad guy,” in the room. Get used to it and start showing the political courage to actually fix this stuff.

Today I've worked on one of the most gorgeous Autochrome plates I've seen. It was taken in colour about 116 years ago, and it depicts Suzanne Lumière - daughter of Louis Lumière who co-invented the Autochrome process. She is seated in a woodland glade, backlit with stunning depth of field, eating a bowl of cherries whilst wearing a striking red cardigan which complements the colour of the fruit beautifully. It is art, romanticism and technical brilliance rolled into one. They don't get much better than this.
It was taken using the family's early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.

TIMING MATTERS: Five Months BEFORE the FBI opened a criminal probe in May 2017 targeting @POTUS as a potential Russian asset after he fired @Comey

FBI investigators already KNEW by January 2017 there were "serious questions about the reliability of the Steele (dossier) reporting..." according to DOJ watchdog Michael Horowitz.

The flawed Steele dossier underpinned the Russia collusion allegations.

The newly declassified 2017 FBI record @WhiteHouse also stands out because it cites "multiple open source reports" as justification.

One of the most concerning elements of the FBI Russia collusion probes was "circular reporting" Here's how it works:

FBI officials (or their proxies) would leak information to a reporter, who would then publish the leak.

The same FBI officials would then cite the resulting media story to justify further investigative actions — including surveillance warrants for a former Trump campaign aide.

Internal DOJ investigations would conclude Comey was fired for a number of reasons, including his mishandling of the Clinton case which violated "long-standing department practice and protocol.”
