'MPs must act to save young drivers lives' in @guardian@GdnPolitics@guardianopinion
https://t.co/tUqEr7lpad
I am delighted that so many academics and experts have supported this letter - the ten who's names were published, plus the many others who support it. They are experts in criminology, law, medicine, psychology, public health, and transport safety: all disciplines which impact directly on young driver safety. The evidence for Graduated Driving Licensing #GDL is strong and has been available for many years, and I hope politicians will listen to the experts and act.
Graduated Driving Licensing was first debated in the House of Commons in 1993, and Alice, my (forever) 12 year old daughter was killed in a young driver crash in 2008. Had politicians acted before then, or over the decades since, and not simply debated, Alice might very well be looking forward to her 28th birthday this year. Between 20 - 40% of other bereaved parents might still have their children (young adults) alive today too.
Politicians need to decide whether they will continue to ignore the evidence and calls from parents, or finally take action.

There were fewer vehicles on the road during the Covid-19 pandemic, so were there fewer casualties? I’ll be hosting a free lunchtime webinar looking at why driving behaviour may have changed during this time. Click the link for more info & to sign up! https://t.co/so6IxQcsQ7
🚨 DriveFit intervention resources are now available FOC to the road safety community via @Road_Safety_GB to use with 16-18-year-old pre-drivers 🚨The resources can be found at https://t.co/epEd76JtUu https://t.co/mXGYUY3RKJ. Pls share with your networks #RoadSafety#YoungDrivers
Exciting News: I have successfully defended my #PhD thesis ‘Evaluation of pre-driver education interventions using the Theory of Planned Behaviour’. Thank you to the examination team @CrundallProf, my supervisor @LisaDorn & everyone that has supported and encouraged me #PhD#Viva
#RoadSafety changed due to #COVID19 but is this positive?
A THREAD:🧵
According to #LloydsWorldRiskPoll 80 out of 118 countries ranked #RoadSafety as a lower risk in 2021 compared to 2019
Did road safety really improve? or do we now give it less significance than it deserves?
