@BerjakDonna@GrasslandSocSA Thanks Donna. I used historical trial data for soil carbon, (taken annually dec/jan). N2O and CH4 fluxes are weekly from one month after planting (June 2021) till about plant elongation. We actually have a full year of measurements but we are still but processing the rest!
@BerjakDonna@GrasslandSocSA Thanks @BerjakDonna! They will only be grazing the medics and the cover crop mix in this trial.
In practice this system could be potentially be managed in a way where the animals system benefit more from the cash-crops through residues, dual-purpose crops and sacrificial grazing
@ariseoharjuna @GrasslandSocSA Thanks! Animals make it financially viable to have the N fixer as a pasture. Currently, medics leave more N behind in the system than a legume cash crop (as you are harvesting the N rich pulses). Pastures are also more resilient to irregular rainfall than wheat, lowering risk
The experiment will demonstrate the legacy effects of multi-species grassland mixtures in a crop rotation system and the benefits of multi-species mixtures for yield, weed suppression, nitrogen use efficiency, forage quality #GSSACongress56#LegacyNet#nitrogen @Nittygr05781999
