The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns.
The oil industry buys off Congress. No action on climate.
Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care.
Pharma buys off Congress. No action on drug prices.
Money in politics is the root of our dysfunction.
Think about this. In Norway, CEOs make 11x more than their average worker.
In the United States, CEOs make 351x more than their average worker.
Does anybody seriously believe CEOs in this country work 351 times harder than the average American worker? I don't think so.
Federal Income Taxes Paid in 2021:
$0: AT&T
$0: AIG
$0: Dow
$0: Charter Communications
$0: Salesforce
$0: Duke Energy
$0: Kinder Morgan
Combined profits: $55.6 billion
But we're told inflation is rising because a worker got a 50 cent raise & a $1,400 check. #TaxTheRich
Meat prices increased by double digits.
Tyson’s CEO says they’re asking customers to “pay for inflation.”
Meanwhile, Tyson’s posted $1 billion in profits last quarter — a 48% increase from the first quarter of 2021.
Don't be fooled. This is about corporate greed. It always is.
Corporate greed is Nike increasing its profit by 125% last year to $5.7 billion & blaming "inflation" for a 10.5% price spike on a pair of expensive sneakers made by workers in Vietnam earning less than a buck an hour while Phil Knight became $26.7 billion richer in the pandemic.
Wendy's increased its net income by 70%, pays its CEO 532X more than its median worker & is spending $100 million on stock buybacks. Now it's blaming the rising price of a Frosty on inflation? No. The problem isn't the Wendy's worker who got a 50 cent raise. It's corporate greed.
Barrel of oil
Week ago: $128
Now: $99
Gallon of gas
Week ago: $4.17
Now: $4.32
Oil company profits are at 7-year highs, they get $180 billion a year in government subsidies and they're issuing $88 billion in buybacks/dividends this year.
Do the math.
For the last month I've been clicking on every headline with the word "inflation" in it and scrolling through to see how many mention record corporate profits.
Just about none of them do.
Seems like a piece of information that would be relevant, but what do I know
Starbucks is raising prices after reporting a 31% increase in profits. The company’s revenue increased by almost 20% to over $8,000,000,000. Their CEO’s pay increased by almost 40% last year to more than $20,000,000.
Do not be fooled. This is about corporate greed. It always is.
Shock. Shock. Shock. Gas prices are at the highest level in 7 years while Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Shell & BP made nearly $25 billion in profits last quarter – the highest level in over 7 years. The problem is not inflation. The problem is corporate greed, collusion & profiteering.
Dick's burgers in Seattle:
*$19 min wage
*Free health care for workers
*3 weeks paid vacation
*50% 401(k) match
*9,000 for tuition or childcare
*$1.80 basic burger
*Plenty of job applicants
There's no labor shortage. There's a shortage of companies willing to pay a living wage.
Just to recap: We spend $750 billion a year on the Military to "bring democracy" to other countries but we can't pass a bill to make it easier for Americans to vote here.
Weeks of paid family leave by country:
UK: 39
Ireland: 26
Finland: 23.5
Australia: 18
Denmark: 18
France: 16
Switzerland: 14
USA: Zero
And Senate Democrats just dropped paid leave from the Build Back Better plan. It really, truly, doesn't have to be this way.
Just saw a chick walking around Target in a t-shirt which read: “Unvaccinated and Unmasked. Because that’s how God made me.”
She was wearing makeup.
Her nails were painted.
And I’d be willing to wager all my money that she isn’t exactly a natural blonde.
I guess God does hair.
Today, every single Senate Republican voted against equal pay for women & for a status quo that robs their daughters, sisters, wives & friends of $400k over a lifetime.
Equal work deserves equal pay. Period.
Democrats won’t stop fighting until HR7 becomes the law of the land.
Tax breaks Republicans want to provide by repealing the estate tax:
–$88 billion to the Walton family
–$71 billion to the Jeff Bezos family
–$65 billion to the Elon Musk family
–$50 billion to the Bill Gates family
–$40 billion to the Mark Zuckerberg family
–$0 to the 99.9%
