@JuliannaRowsell Kind of a "grassroots" initiative from people from CSPS, CRA, EDSC - we at TBS mostly facilitated them getting together, etc. It uncovered many inconsistencies in the current design system - next step will be to fix them...! @LisaUXstories @SardonManuel @TonyBedward and many more
@JuliannaRowsell@gordbot@afhill@CDS_GC I think some may underestimate the strategic impact designers can (or should) have, especially on large modernization initiatives. And we need experienced people to carry that responsibility.
@JuliannaRowsell@gordbot@afhill@CDS_GC Exactly. I'm not a "classification" specialist by any means, but I feel like more senior-level design positions outside of the management track (CS or otherwise) are a move in the right direction. Hopefully, other departments will have more flexibility for that as well.
@CelesteCote@kingofark@afhill@quidampepin And I assume that there are different channels for outreach, raising awareness of services, etc. and the web would be a part of it
@CelesteCote@kingofark@afhill@quidampepin Totally. Sometimes a big pain point with services is around "awareness" (ex. some users might not know that they need to register their boat)
@SardonManuel @quidampepin Amanda Clarke's article brings up interesting insights on the challenges and opportunities of centralized digital services in the gov context. The execution might not be the same, but there are parallels between what she describes as DGUs and digital labs in large companies
@afhill@quidampepin@CelesteCote I guess if we want to make a distinction, there might be a difference between a gov service being "reactive" vs "proactive". Like offering a channel for input VS outreach (like in @CelesteCote 's example of promoting something)
@cydharrell I sometimes like to try out the chatbots just to see how well it responds. Sometimes they can help me find answers or transfer to an actual human chat. As I've designed conversational UI before, I have fairly realistic expectations of them...I generally prefer chat to calling.
@BeccaMcF Are the interim solutions actually providing value? Or is it just an arbitrary cut-off point? Are they going to be used to learn and help inform better decisions for the long-term solutions? What were the tradeoffs?
@kingofark@berkun Not sure if I would correlate that kind of attitude to a certain age group or level of experience...It seems to be more around the individual's personality and the environments that shaped them.
