I will keep advocating for a Medical Aid in Dying law for those who are at the end of their days and want this option in Ohio. Join @OhioOptions to learn more.
TO THE EDITOR: I realize that in order to allow Ohioans to access Medical Aid In Dying, a policy must be created with safeguards. https://t.co/x6xewbs8WO
Dr. Jeremy Boal’s life changed forever in November 2023 when he was diagnosed with ALS. His first thought was how he would live with the disease. As a physician specializing in internal medicine and geriatrics in New York, Dr. Boal had spent years caring for patients with ALS and witnessing how profoundly the disease can take over a person’s life.
His experience led him to become an advocate for Death with Dignity. Now, thanks to New York’s MAID law, he has the option to make his own decisions about the end of his life.
Learn more about Dr. Boal’s story and how having this option gives him peace of mind, knowing that ALS will not ultimately decide for him. https://t.co/YwxB9Cg1FG

Today, we celebrate a monumental moment over a decade in the making: New York’s Medical Aid in Dying Act has officially been implemented!
From our CEO, Peg Sandeen: “New Yorkers never back down when it comes to defending dignity. For well over a decade, they have channeled their determination, grit, and unwavering spirit into our medical aid-in-dying movement. I’m proud to say the time has finally come when terminally ill New Yorkers have the law on their side.”

“From the beginning of his diagnosis, Scott has been clear about one thing: His quality of life matters most.”
When Scott was diagnosed with ALS at 38, he and Laura were raising a toddler and expecting their second child. Today, ALS has taken away his ability to walk and much of his independence — but it hasn’t changed what matters most to him: being present for his family and living fully for as long as possible.
Laura and Scott continue to raise awareness for Death with Dignity and share their story in The Boston Globe, so lawmakers in Massachusetts can understand why he wants this peaceful option for himself. That option is not yet available in Massachusetts.

The Ohio Medical Aid in Dying Act (HB 835) was introduced in April 2026. We need your help to grow our Petition of Support. Thank you!
For the first time since 2018, Ohio has introduced the Medical Aid in Dying Act (HB835). Representative Eric Synenberg introduced this legislation during his press conference — a major step forward after years of advocacy to bring an aid-in-dying law to the Buckeye State.
Alongside him, our Board President, Lisa Vigil Schattinger, Shara Baumgartel of Marietta, Jim O’Neil of Waterville, and Michael Oser of Columbus shared deeply personal stories that underscored why the time to pass HB835 is now.

Access to Medical Aid in Dying is about real people. David wanted options. He couldn't have them because he lives in Ohio. We want to change that.
We've been asked by a few supporters for guidance on submitting a Letter to the Editor of their community newspapers. Check out our website. We are happy to review anything you send before you submit it if you send it to [email protected].
