Good to see the the teaching of reading is getting some attention by the media. Schools need better guidance on how to teach reading from @AddysgEducation.
If systematic synthetic phonics is good enough for England, Australia, USA, New Zealand & Singapore, why isn't it good enough for Wales? @robrandel
Children's reading standards 'a lottery' in Wales

''Teacher @robrandel said parents were getting "a lottery ticket" for their children's English reading standards without a consistent approach across schools.''
Very interesting piece here raising some important points and asks challenging questions.
We have to strive for better for our children. We can’t leave reading to chance.

Primary school teacher @robrandel is spot on. Too many children in Wales are functionally illiterate and cannot access the secondary school curriculum because of poor reading skills. In primary, you learn to read. In secondary, you read to learn.

Vintage @R4TheVerb@IMcMillan at the Hay Festival. One highlight was @MMargolyes' perfectly calculated, completely chilling reading of Browning's 'The Last Duchess'. How powerful Victorian poetry can be. As she said, you may 'skate silkily' over rhyme.
