@eventualforever As a DHMIS fan, I have grown to resent how DHMIS is framed as the arbiter of any art even remotely similar to it. DHMIS was a pioneer, it discovered a very beloved vibe, but I think Becky and Joe themselves would admit there are many other valid approaches to this vibe.

@puterbobart DHMIS is, of course, deeply rooted in an obsession with the unknown. Becky and Joe have mentioned they took explicit inspiration from the feeling of uncovering an old tape, I think the ambiguous endings were intended to play into this. Vague, emotionally complex nondescript.

@puterbobart Conversely, as a mega fan, I do not think either DHMIS show was a cliff hanger. DHMIS was a story that was rooted much more in broader emotional auras than in specific storytelling, and I think both series are trying to give you an emotionally satisfying ending.
