The breakdown of muscle is an inconvenient reality when losing weight, and this effect can be profound.
But it does not have to be.
In this clip, @BradSchoenfeld highlights how up to 30% of weight loss can come from muscle in people who do NOT resistance train.
As we get older, we lose muscle mass/strength. But if we've been doing resistance training, we will be better prepared for an unpredictable hospitalization.
Analysis of 10 studies found that 60 min of resistance training per week is linked to a 27% lower risk of premature death.
Why does exercise lower cancer risk?
One reason may have to do with lactate - once thought to be a metabolic waste product generated from exercise - boosts anti-tumor activity in immune cells.
