We wrapped up week one completing “Identity Wheels”—This @EllevationEd strategy was perfect to wrap up our read aloud “Same, Same but Different” #SummerSchool
Excited to begin the afternoon w/ our SMILes as we think about co-teaching & co-planning & how we can support & coach our teachers w/ this important work! #fcpssecmath Thanks @LizMirandaFCPS, Barb, Tim, and Laila for your partnership! @FCPSCurriculum@KathyGullCII#FCPSPL
Students who are reading in a language they are still learning may benefit from additional scaffolding to support comprehension.
1. Chunk — Divide the reading into manageable portions.
2. Stop for discussion — Give students frequent opportunities to discuss the reading with their peers.
3. Pause for drawing — Have students do something with the reading such as draw or act out a scene.
4. Read together — Pair students to read with a buddy, read together as a class, or have the class echo read.
5. Use L1 — Leverage students” full linguistic resources including their first language.

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming back over 140 #fcpsMEProgram teachers for Curriculum Day. This year we are committed to developing literacy across content areas, co-teaching, and ensuring we listen to the voice of our ML community! @KaitlinMooreEdD @MeganHailu
This afternoon I had the opportunity to spend time in a Kindergarten class of MLs at Waverley. The enthusiasm these students had towards learning in math was electrifying 🙌 Ongoing opportunities for academic discourse increases overall student engagement!
More than half of the world is bilingual or multilingual. Knowing more than a singular language is advantageous. Like having many routes to a destination, linguistic flexibility can take us further in life. 🙌🏽♥️🌎
Thanks to the WHS staff for their reflective conversations during PL today! @DrWare_FCPS Always a treat to spend the day talking about writing strategies #fcpsMEProgram
#TeachingTip: "Enlarge and laminate your writing paper and use it to display a sample piece of writing! Either one you model for your class or a shared writing piece that students can refer back to." —Former teacher Kylie Barragan
