This #IndependenceDay, we're exploring the historic links between the Abbey and the United States - including two memorials which unite the UK and the US in remembrance.

Buried in the Abbey is the Unknown Warrior, whose body was brought from the battlefields of the First World War and given a State Funeral.

Arlington National Cemetery in Washington is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Solider, the final resting place of US service personnel from the First World War and more recent conflicts.

Earlier this year, members of our Choir visited Arlington during their tour to the US and paid their own tribute at the tomb, which just like the Warrior's grave in the Abbey, stands as a powerful tribute to all who have given their lives in the service of their country.
