It’s that time again to remind everyone of Murdo Fraser’s greatest ever video showing the positive case for the Union from a union point of view! Unfortunately he has blocked me so please feel free to retweet and tag him in on it! #Indyref2023#ScottishIndependence2023
The media is going to systematically de-platform Green MPs over the next 4 years while giving Farage a megaphone.
It’s on us to force the issues that matter onto the agenda.
That means we’ve got to make a lot of trouble 😈
With the Greens now having the same number of seats as Reform, the UK media should provide them the same platform and level of coverage as Farage’s ilk. Will it happen though? #GE24
🗳️ Total popular votes won by Labour in...
🔴 2015 ~ 9.3 million
🔴 2017 ~ 12.9 million
🔴 2019 ~ 10.3 million
🔴 2024 ~ 9.7 million
Starmer got ~500,000 fewer votes than Corbyn in 2019, and ~3 million fewer votes than Corbyn in 2017.
While I'm delighted to see the back of the Tories, this election should remind us that our electoral system is not fit for purpose. It should not be possible to achieve a massive majority on a minority of the vote.
As predicted the Tories wiped themselves out, for now we can all celebrate!
But...Labour after having wiped out the left will privatise the NHS, continue installing 12 deregulated Freeports and 74 Special Economic Zones, sell off public services, asset strip councils, and allow Blackrock to devastate the environment while telling the electorate they are pro-green.
Labour can now with malign intent fully sabotage rejoining the EU by contravening EU laws on State Aid (public money) that distorts markets creating an unlevel playing field.
SEZs are licensed for 25 years and tax-exempt for business for 10 years, there's your 'growth' right there, except communities won't see one penny of it because of Reeves supply-side economics and indulging of massive post-Brexit deregulation.
Zone fever is here, the baton of neoliberal SEZs already taken up by Labour years ago.
My work is far from done.
Labour beat the SNP by 6.1 percentage points, but has 311% of the SNP’s seats.
Across the UK, they won 35% of the vote - substantially less than in 2017 - but have a historic thumping majority.
The UK’s electoral system is fundamentally broken.
20% of the electorate vote for a govt that will wield absolute power for the next 5 years, winning 63% of the seats with 34% of those who voted, while outgoing unelected PM hands out peerages to a bunch of his mates. The most ludicrous governance system in Europe outside Belarus.
A new Israeli law is on it's way to success. The law will make Israel more obviously an apartheid state.
The law is simple: Palestinians can be subject to indefinite, arbitrary imprisonment (i.e. hostage taking), but Jews can't.
Not so complicated after all #apartheid
You need at least 60% of the vote for a mandate for a referendum but 34% gets you a historic landslide, unfettered power to rewrite the UK and do what you want.
I posted this after the defeat in the 2014 referendum, so here it is again, sent with love as a balm to the soul of my brother and sister Scots who are suffering today. Nothing has changed in our determination to make Scotland a proud, independent nation at the heart of Europe.
BREAKING:
Just now, Israel has bombed a civilian house in Jabalia in the middle of the night, killing an entire family in their sleep, including parents and 3 children.
This is terrorism.
This is telling. Labour has not won. The Tories lost and the SNP have lost, whilst Reform and the Greens have won, and the LibDems have been exceedingly organised. But Labour has not won hearts and minds. Not in the slightest.
Private equity capitalists will be laughing themselves all the way to the bank tonight https://t.co/QaKImexueL No one has more to make out of a Labour victory than private equity capitalists do, since Rachel Reeves seems intent on making them very rich indeed, at cost to the rest of us. Is this what she means by Labour’s plan for wealth creation?
