@damechatprrr I took early retirement. I thought I'd feel regret or miss the children. It never happened. The first few months I had an overwhelming feeling of lightness and relief.
Wishing the same for you 😊
My child worked so hard to get a uni qualification. They can do the job, but they will never be able to compete against neurotypical candidates at job interviews.
Disability employment agencies are useless. 🇦🇺 needs to follow 🇪🇺 and introduce quotas for disability employment
@thejasonkantor Just to be clear, this scenario indicates a failure of leadership, not of the teacher. All schools should have clear guidance on how to identify SEND students & the referral pathways open to them. Both the teacher & student are let down when this doesn't happen.
@thejasonkantor If he’s 4th grade, has 'terrible' ADHD & can't read, the first response shouldn't be to blame 'parents [who] don't do anything to help him'. Schools have legal obligations & resources for SEND students. The student should have access to allied health & an IEP through the school
@naomicfisher It's a pity that your tweet fails to recognise your own role as an influential activist. Especially when it appears your book aims to influence opinion through social commentary rather than the science based approach that you champion...
@Cornell Universities shouldn't be contaminating evidence by conducting their own investigations into SA. Instead, they should be supporting victims to approach police specialised in handling SA cases.
One of the advantages of funding autism support through the NDIS was that allied health professionals had opportunities to work directly with parents as well as children.
I hope that this isn't lost if programs move to the Dept of Education.
Last week, I called on the government to provide greater transparency around the rollout of the Thriving Kids program.
It’s been handed to the Dept of Education in Victoria - there are real questions why Health isn’t handling it, and not much clarity about what’s been done to date.
The Queensland Government hasn’t signed on, just a week out from the program’s launch. We could do with detail from other states and territories too.
All Australians deserve confidence that the services and supports our kids need will be there for them after October 1.
@QuatoofCapital@frankpocius6196@MrDanielBuck Most teachers work very hard to create a classroom culture which practices empathy and support for one another.
Equally, I would expect that there is additional classroom support for the student. Not being toilet trained at this age indicates SEND.
PSA: if you currently carry an epipen for anaphylaxis then get yourself to your GP & ask for Neffy, nasal adrenaline. Way better than an injection.
You are welcome.
@MrDanielBuck * It is increasingly common for mainstream schools to accept students with SEND. Some of these students may need support with personal care such as toileting.
There fixed it for you.
I’m not going to repost the image of a miscarried foetus the monstrous @ProfJoannaHowe somehow managed to obtain from the Butterfly Room, a private space where parents can grieve the loss of their babies.
This depraved, disgusting woman names the lost child, & urges everyone to repost.
We need an investigation into how she obtained this photo.
I can only imagine how the parents feel.
@ProfJoannaHowe - you are utterly vile, & deserve every bit of backlash you get for your despicable, sickening theft & exploitation of this image & these parents
