The attack comes 10 years after the assassination of 3 prominent Kurdish female activists & community leaders. Among those women was Sakine Cansiz — a founder of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, where the phrase “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” or “Women, Life, Freedom” is rooted.

PARIS, FRANCE: 3 Kurdish people are dead and others wounded after a gunman attacked the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Culture Center and two other Kurdish-owned businesses. This was clearly a racist attack and is a reminder of the continuing threat to Kurdish existence.

Jin Jiyan Azadi is a KURDISH phrase meaning “Woman, Life, Freedom.” It's rooted in the KURDISH Feminist Movement and is anti-capitalist/anti-patriarchal/anti-nationalist. CENTER KURDISH WOMEN. Don't erase us in this movement with ambiguity.
