@MiPenTy@nelly_g7@holisticgrenade But identifying the damage is the whole point... if it is sticky with an explorer, it needs attention. You're not going to make a cavity worse by instrumentation with an explorer.
@MiPenTy No. That's not true. I'm also a periodontist. That's not a thing.
In fact, if you're worried about getting bacteria in your blood stream (bacteremia) from your mouth, make sure to avoid these two things:
1. Brushing your teeth
2. Eating
@Natalie45030283@holisticgrenade Gum disease is certainly NOT 100% hereditary. Depending on which disease were talkikg about, very little is hereditary. There are studies for the last 50+ years in animals and humans proving this.
Having spaces has been proven to not be significant if you clean them...
@SydneyLWatson Agreed. I visited Italy for the first time in 10 years... it was so depressing. I might not go back.
The complete immigrant-washing of European cultures is almost guaranteed and will go down as one of the biggest tragedies in human history.
@Natalie45030283@holisticgrenade It might play a role, especially with periodontal disease more than cavities.
Disease requires:
1. A susceptible host
2. Harmful bacterial
3. Food for the bacteria
If you take care of 2 and 3 daily, number 1 doesn't matter very much.
@Natalie45030283@holisticgrenade What most people call "genetics" is learned behavior. Patient's say, "well my mom and dad and siblings have cavities so it must be genetics..."
or maybe you ate the same food and water, had the same oral hygiene habits, had the same access (or lack thereof) to dental care.
@madtwatterphd@peterboulden@holisticgrenade I'll give you a pass because of the Szoboszlai Pic, but maybe sit this one out, my dude. There are different measures of strength.
@Talkytalky11@nelly_g7@holisticgrenade ....which is why you and every other hygienist went to hygiene school. So let's not do that and everything will be okay.
@solfeggio777@holisticgrenade@JFGariepy Braces DO NOT wreak havoc on enamel. Lol. 🤣
Not brushing your teeth well while braces are on... now that's a different story.
@HazelAppleyard_ @holisticgrenade On the tooth = checking for decay
On the gums = checking for periodontal disease.
The tool is basically a needle... healthy enamel feels like sliding a needle along glass. Decay feels like poking a needle into wax. It sticks into it.
