@RobertSommers80@loomdoop You're misunderstanding how money is allocated. The city budgets separately for training and salary. SF cut academy classes and hiring, so fewer cops for the same number of roles. OT salary comes from a different pot. Hiring a new PO costs more than this guy makes in OT.
@RobertSommers80@loomdoop I have no idea what his day-to-day looks like, and neither do you. If you want to be mad about something, be mad at the city for underfunding public safety, making it difficult to hire enough people to meet legally required staffing.
@RobertSommers80@loomdoop Yeah you’re right, fuck it. Just don’t backfill with OT when guys are off. Enjoy having a fire engine with 1 dude respond to your house fire
@SteveTr3v0r@loomdoop You realize they’re paid by the city right? I’m not saying local governments are without fraud or waste, but they also don’t want to be paying guys $500k in OT. Falsifying hours on your timecard is a one way ticket to getting fired, prosecuted, and losing your pension.
@devahaz@diablovalleycap Police and fire unions almost unanimously want more hiring. City councils limit hiring because it’s easier to kick the financial can down the road than budget for new hires.
