@MichelinGuideUK @elevenponteland A small piece of beef and three new potatoes is certainly a novel idea for a starter, but I suspect that what we are looking at is part of a set "tasting" menu, with a dozen such minuscule portions following in quick succession.
I can't agree with Sally - it would be fascinating to see the Symposium unfolding, or watching Frederick Copleston knocking seven bells out of A J Ayer's principle of verification ... https://t.co/aiWPcPNdCd
@policies4poland I sympathise with that, yet do these feelings arise when seeing the self-same thing live in the theatre? I think not. There is so much dross on the TV that we may nolens-volens regard it as a trivialising medium, and yet there are occasionally engaging and worthwhile things too.
@policies4poland I would recommend any episode of "Inspector Montalbano" or, if you're in for a long haul, a full series - one long story - of "Spiral" (the earlier ones were, I think, better). You might be pleasantly surprised.
@policies4poland ... mind you, I avoid The Bill (which actually started very well) and the US import Law and Order, precisely because I know in advance that they are sausage factory productions.
@policies4poland We must watch entirely different TV series - even in the narrow genre of police procedurals there is quality and diversity, cf. the truly profound Montalbano, the bleak Vera, the throughly enjoyable NCIS, the odd couple pairing of Dalziel and Pascoe, the grittiness of Spiral ...
@policies4poland Does this also apply to plays, operas, novels, poetry? Why should the overall enjoyment of any work of art, high or low, literary or musical, be undermined by an appreciation of its craft? Unless you remorselessly "analyse" as in the study of set books for EngLit O-level.
Lukashenka is at a meeting in Sochi today. He has no legitimacy to make decisions, and his deals will be revised in new Belarus.
Quite an irony that a person calling himself a president is the main threat to Belarusian independence.
This is really important. This week I’ve explained to several intelligent, highly educated in areas other than law, generally interested-in-society people why the PPE procurement case doesn’t mean Hancock should go to prison...
Amazing news from @StGeorgesTrust that a total of 2000 patients have been discharged following recovery from Covid-19.
This is testament to the tireless efforts of colleagues, who have been working day in, day out to save lives. It was an honour to join them again this weekend.
