“Don’t Judge Anyone, Just Care About Yourself”

“Only Allah can judge me”

The statement “Don’t judge anyone, just care about yourself” is not an Islamic principle it’s a slogan of secularism and liberalism, not of the Qurʾān and Sunnah. Just as the statement “only God can judge me” is a Christian belief in the Bible
They imply that we should remain silent about evil, excuse sin, and assume righteousness in everyone even when clear disobedience to Allah is seen.

But True Islam is that:

“We judge by the apparent and leave the hidden to Allah.”

Meaning, if a woman openly exposes herself (tabarruj), she is judged by what is apparent, a sinful act.
If a woman wears the niqāb and observes ḥijāb, she is judged by what is apparent, an act of obedience.
Only Allah knows what is hidden in the hearts.

Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said,

“We only judge now what is manifested outwardly of your deeds. Whoever shows us good, we will trust him and bring him close. It is not for us to judge anything of his inner secrets. Allah will hold him accountable for his inner secrets. Whoever shows us evil, we will never trust him or believe him even if it is said his intentions are good.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2641

The Qurʾān Commands Us to Enjoin Good and Forbid Evil

“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful.”
Surah Āl ʿImrān 3:104

This verse refutes the liberal idea of “just care about yourself.”
Islam teaches responsibility not apathy

The Prophet ﷺ Said:

“Whoever among you sees evil, let him change it with his hand. If he cannot do so, then with his tongue. If he cannot do so, then with his heart, which is the weakest level of faith”
Sahih Muslim (49)

This ḥadīth shows that seeing evil and remaining silent as the post suggests is a sign of weak īmān, not wisdom.

Judging by the Apparent is a Sharʿī Principle

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“I was not commanded to open people’s hearts or split their bellies.”
al-Bukhārī (4351), Muslim (1064)

Meaning: we deal with people based on what appears from their actions and speech.
Thus, when a woman commits open tabarruj (exposes her beauty publicly), we judge the act as sinful not her heart.
And when a woman wears the niqāb in obedience, we judge the act as righteous without claiming perfection for her.

This is the just balance of Ahl al-Sunnah.

Abu Sa’êd al-Khudri said, I heard the messenger of Allah ﷺ say:

Allah will question the slave on the day of resurrection till he says:

“WHAT STOPPED YOU FROM FORBIDDING THE EVIL WHEN YOU’VE SEEN IT?”

Ibn Mājah 4017

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله)
Said:

“One of the tricks of Shaytan: He encourages the abandonment of commanding the good and forbidding the evil with the excuse of being kind to people and bringing them close.”

(Ighathatul Lahfan 1/194)

Shaykh Uthaymeen (رحمه الله) said:

“enjoining good & forbidding evil is something that concerns the person: [Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good and forbidding Evil] [3:104] If you see a person upon evil, you should say to him, "O brother!
This is a Evil. It is not permissible." The person who witnesses that (evil) has no right to say, "This does not concern me" “

Da-qeeq al Eed and In 'Uthaymeen, page 96]

Refuting the “Maybe She Has Private Good Deeds” Argument

We don’t deny that Allah alone knows the unseen, but Islam teaches that public deeds reflect public judgment.
If a person openly sins, we don’t say “maybe they do good privately” and ignore their transgressions rather we advise them and disapprove of their sin, while leaving their inner state to Allah.
