@OmarKelly Intent does not matter at all. A dangerous tackle can result in a straight red card even if the player had absolutely no intention of hurting the opponent or was genuinely trying to play the ball.

Red card if it endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force.

@d_wash89 @Doll_Phan72 We never used to have it much in England and always sneered at the pesky foreigners who did it, but over the last decade or two it's become ingrained in the English game too. You almost have to do it now to game the system as everyone else is. Wish they'd cut it out.
