My Caps hot take - IMO, this fight killed the Caps momentum and I think it rocked Ovi a bit - the ‘the dog’ in him disappeared. No evidence for it other than how the game felt after. I think seeing Svech on the ice messed him up a bit.

Biggest frustration here is Hutson is going to get the raw end of the deal by having Mac as his partner. I’d rather see Marty paired with him so Hutson and Unc stay together.

I get the frustration that Leno isn’t on the ‘1st line’ but from a game deployment aspect that ‘4th’ line IMO had the most impact on the TBL game, this gets him off a sheltered line and allows him to compete more consistently.

Carbs big takeaway last year with Leno was he needs to step up defensively and take on more responsibility to continue to develop his game. This gives him that chance with a line that will be used in all situations.

Gary Bettman believes the NHL has gotten away from the original purpose of no-trade clauses 👀

Bettman says they were intended to protect players signing long-term in a place they wanted to stay, not allow them to demand a trade AND dictate where they’re willing to go.
