“I really just need to make sure that I can focus on the long term. By long term, I just mean five to ten years. One of the challenges with being a public company is the pressure to have great results every single quarter and to not really invest in things that may only pay off in full. And so I think it’s a good idea to invest in things that are going to pay off in five to ten years. In the case of SpaceX, I want to extend consciousness beyond Earth and have a growing civilization on the Moon, Mars, and elsewhere in the solar system. The return, I think ultimately, would be very high.
