Summer is beginning to creep into fall and I’m so excited! From backyard bbq and blackberries, into football, flannel and fires. What a magical time of year! :)
No Ceilings specifically, and Lil Wayne in general, didn’t age well. At least compared to rappers who focused more on production and less on bars. But No Ceilings got a play out of me today and even if it’s not still my favorite, it was so much my favorite then I still have it #1
The father plants trees he will never climb and the son climbs trees he did not plant, and somewhere in this sacred exchange lies the mystery of time itself - how a man becomes eternal not by living forever but by teaching another man to die well, and when the son finally understands that his father's silence was not absence but presence compressed into granite, that his father's hands were not empty but full of invisible seeds, then he becomes the father, then he plants the trees, then he learns the terrible beautiful weight of loving someone into tomorrow
Wake up early and say nothing, keep your house quiet, eat what you grew, drink what you poured, let your children watch you fail, let your children watch you get back up, do not yell at your wife, do not yell at your children, do not yell at yourself, work with your hands at least once a week, read alone, pray alone, eat together always, turn the lights off when the day is done, hold your tongue when you are right, hold your tongue longer when you are wrong, give more than you promised, promise less than you can carry, the sick dont visit them with words, visit them with food, bury your dead properly, name the children after people who deserved it, stay married stay married stay married, and then hope.
I just fucking love it here, and I love all of you. And it reminded me of one of my favorite Bukowski quotes. “I’ve never met a man I’d rather be, and even if that’s a delusion, it’s a lucky one.”
And I know I’m extremely blessed to be able to say “I’d rather be me.” And there IS a ton of bullshit here- my job fucking sucks, I have to eke out a living, and I’m not fulfilled in the slightest by my career, but it’s so hard to envy anyone when it’s so much love around you.
This is biblical.
A woman in her eighties. Ten years into Alzheimer's. Hadn't spoken a full sentence in five years.
Takes one, 5 gram dose of psilocybin.
She slept 19 hours and woke up and spoke for hours about her life, recognized family and held real conversations. She regained bladder control after five years, walked on her own. and dressed herself. Gains held for weeks.
Within digital environments — structured to persuade — interaction is optimized to the point of rendering a real encounter superfluous; the otherness of persons in the flesh is neutralized, and relationships are reduced to functional responses. Dear friends, you, however, are real persons! Creation itself has a body, a breath, a life to be listened to and safeguarded.
