Battle of Tipton Green. 12 June 1644
Henry, Lord Wilmot, leading a force of cavalry to relieve Dudley Castle encounters a parliamentarian force under the Earl of Denbigh at Tipton Green. After an inconclusive engagement, Wilmot withdraws having accomplished his mission.
This siege coin was minted to pay the Royalist defenders of Scarborough (1644-45) during the English Civil War. Silver plate was cut to size & stamped with a depiction of Scarborough Castle & a mark of value, this one was worth 5 shillings & 8 pence. From the Hunterian collection
I do love the possibly apocryphal story about Douglas Bader, Fokker fighter planes and a girls' school assmbly but I am not going to repeat it here!

Siege of Liverpool. 7-11 June 1644
On this day 1644. Prince Rupert stormed Liverpool.
Accounts state, 'the matter was disputed very hotly'. After fierce fighting by the outnumbered garrison, they evacuated the town on 11 June.

Sir Michael Woodhouse, determined to recapture Stokesay Castle, assembles a small army and advances through Corvedale. He is brought to battle and defeated by the local parliamentarians. Although he escapes Sir William Croft is killed.
Capture of Compton Wynyates. 7 June 1644
The royalist garrison at Compton Wynyates, after becoming a through nuisance to the local parliamentarians, was besieged by troops from the Warwick garrison. After bombarding the house for several days the garrison surrendered upon quarter

2ndSiege of Basing. 4 June 1644
Col. Richard Horton begins a siege of Basing House. In early July, Colonel Morley arrives demanding the surrender of the house βto avoid the effusion of Christian blood.β The Marquess of Winchester refused to surrender to Morleyβs βcrooked demandβ.
4 June 1610: Henry Stewart installed as Prince of #Wales#otd in the court of requests at Westminster Palace before both houses of #parliament & many other guests. His ermine-lined robe cost in excess of Β£1,300 alone!
